DSL - Frame verse ATM question

Tech Question!

I’ve had DSL since 98. Until a month ago the circuit has been on Frame. Two days ago my ISP changed me to ATM telling that it is the newer of the two technologies. In addition to that it would be noticeably faster with burst in data flow. I am allegedly paying for a 128/1500 circuit. I just downloaded a 5 Meg file and the first Meg took about 12 second while the remaining for Megs took 20 seconds per Meg and each Meg after that taking a little longer.

Although this is an improvement over the Frame I am curios why there is a burst in the data.

TIA

Doesn’t anyone have any ideas on this?

I’m pretty sure that when you click “Save target as…”, the file begins downloading before you even finalize the save. This means that while you’re choosing where to save the file and what to save the file as, the file is already downloading. This allows for inflated download rates because what your progress bar is telling you is really just catching up to where it’s already at. I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with what kind of ISP you have.

I say “I’m pretty sure” too much.
