Dublin- decent places to stay

Well, I’ve just done something even rasher than my falling in love with someone higher up the academic foodchain than myself. I’ve just bought tickets to go to Dublin for a weekend, which is an unheard of extravagance on my part.

Does anyone in the know have a good suggestion of a dirt cheap place to stay? I’ve been looking at the Avalon House, as that seems to be tried AND the cheapest I can get.

Ain’t no such thing as “dirt cheap” in Dublin, I’m afraid. Avalon House does come pretty highly recommended though (I’ve never stayed there myself).

Let us know which weekend.

If you are looking for a (basic) hostel, try Issac’s. It is very central and an OK spot to stay, sometimes.

Kinlay House is also pretty good (and cheap). In fact, here’s a list you can choose from.

It’ll be from the 4th through the 7th of December. Whee!

I’m very, very excited about going back.

thanks for the link to Isaac’s…

Isaac’s would be very handy for the Northside dopefest these others have been promising for years …

The Pembroke Townhouse in Ballsbridge which I recommended to Kal and Washte is good, but not dirt cheap, about 100 euros a night, and probably booked up. It’s very nice though.

I’d go for Kinlay house or Avalon, they’re both handy for the centre and not too bad if you want to walk around the area at night (don’t think I’d say the same for Isaac’s).

I think it’s going to be Avalon House, even though I felt very safe on the northside last time I was.

it’s still the cheapest option and I’m on the old student budget…

I’m still trying to justify this by calling it research.

Have you considered a Bed and Breakfast? Unless there is something big going on in Dublin at the time you are there, it is a very cheap option. All the B&Bs I stayed at in Ireland were nice, and you get food in the morning. They were about 30 euros per person, per night.

I did consider the B+B option…but the hostel is 10 € a night and I’m a starving student, taking the trip at the expense of not eating too well for the next couple weeks.

No drinking until I get there, either (eep!)

If you’re planning on drinking here you’ll need to save all your money for that. Pints are over €4 in most places.

I know, ruadh . It’s damned depressing, is what it is. But that’s what it is where I’m from, as well. But I’m still quite excited abotu this.
