Dear Dutch Dopers…

I… erm… okay. Please don’t laugh at me, alright? Good.

I’m working with a musical theatre workshop - we teach young children triple threat stuff (dance, singing, acting) and our 12 week teaching and production program is putting on an operetta version of Jack and the Magic Beanstalk. Much cuteness, all around.

In this operetta, there is a fair, and at the fair, there are quaint (ha ha) dutch characters who sing about holland and so forth and so on. Keep in mind this is a children’s operetta, and it was written in the 20s. Anyway. The kids will be costumed up in ‘traditional’ garb (read here “Disneyfied”).

I… erm… need shoes. I have five cute little wee things (all are under 3ft8, much cuteness) ages 4-6 who need… erm… well, clogs.

Is there a dutch doper out there who could help me find said things (come on, I’m sure a tourist trap out there can help us out…) once I get the kids’ foot measurements (not sizes, since they’re different)… and ship 'em over? The company will gladly pay for the whole shebang and also happily thank the helper in our nifty program.

You’re in the twin cities right? Have you thought about local renfair/tourist trap places? (you know, the ooooh, look at our sophistcated culture-buy our stuff, type places)

We have a “Dutch community” tourist town close to me, and a weekend, or possibly a long days drive, from the cities. See DE PELIKAAN select “shop” about half-way down on the right, then “wood”

If you make an actual trip down to look, let me know, Pella would be a cool place for an Iowa and beyond Dopers meetup, what with Pella(Dutch), the Amanas(German), Newton (Maytag farms, i/e Maytag blue cheese), and Des Moines(beer) a short drive away .

But no matter what, if you are ever in the area, you must have a dutch letter at Vander Ploeg Bakery.

When do you need them? I am on holiday this week elsewhere, but I’ll be in the Netherlands next week … for an honourable programme mention I will do anything (legal).
