DVD players that play AVI files

I have found only two:

LiteOn LVD-2002

and

Maestro DVX 1201

I want to play all those movies I illega… I mean all those home movies I LEGALLY RECORDED, REPEAT, NOT ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADED OFF FILESHARING SITES, on a DVD player. Most of them are in AVI format, and converting them is a pain in the ass. Often times the conversion is faulty anyway, and I just want a player that will play the files burned on to a CD-R in AVI format.
Does anyone know which machine is the better of the two? I won’t just assume that the higher priced is superior. Or for that matter, perhaps someone knows of another player that is available that is better than both of them.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The problem I see is that AVIs can be encoded using any one of a bajillion codecs. And the frequency with which I have to download new codecs to play files that I have “acquired” from the aforementioned services gives me little faith that a shelf-top box can cut it.

What do you do when a new version of the DivX codec is out, and all your favorite porn is in the new version? I doubt it’s possible to update the player.

And that’s the thing about AVIs. They’re not all the same. Many different formats…some more common than others.

The coy disclaimer doesn’t remove the taint of your seeking advice on how to cheat copyright laws. Not on our nickel.
Consider this a warning: do not do this again.
