DVD+/-RW Recording Software Help

Just picked up an external Sony 8x DVD+/-RW drive and a couple ten-packs of Memorex 8x DVD+R discs. Brought it all home, marveled at the glistening Star Trek-ish exterior (no kiddin’, this thing looks like it should emit some kind of tractor beam or somethin’).

Started loading up the software - “Sonic MyDVD LE” - and tried to make a movie.

Well, nothin’ works. We follow the tutorial all the way to the point where it should be burning the disc… but it just stops. We left it to burn the disc all night, and in the morning, it still hadn’t begun (and, no, there wasn’t one more “Next” button or anything to press).

So, okay, DVD burning is still new. I remember ye olden golden days of CD burning, where you get one good disc out of five.

So please, tips on how to either fix the problem, or recommendations for better software.

I can’t help you with MyDVD LE but I can recommend a great DVD burning package.

You can’t go wrong with Nero.

Just as a thought, does MyDVD see your DVD burner?

1: How much free drive space in gigs do you have on the drive you are using for burning?

2: Is the PC port a USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 port?

3: Have you applied that latest Sony firmware update to the drive? If not, do so.

BTW if this an interactive software tutorial, these tutorials will often just be going through the “how to” motions and are designed to stop short of actually burning a disc in some cases. Have you tried buring a DVD without being walked through the procedure by the tutorial?
