Dynasty Warriors 5

I usually don’t play fighting games, as I tend to grip the controller way too hard.

But man, this game is addictive and funny as hell, even if the dubbing made my ears bleed. (Which idiot thought the Cao name is pronounced “Cow”? )

Killing everything that moves has never been so much fun.

And Zhuge Liang shoots LASERS!

…wait… How do you pronounce Cao Cao then?
I hated DW4 so I am not sure about this one.

Is it wrong that I have learned everything I know about ancient China from a video game?

But I did impress a girl by being able to relate the story of Zhang Fei defending the bridge at some battle (I remembered at the time) when we came across a porcelain plate depicting the scene at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.

Just looked it up myself and it’s supposed to be pronounced more like Tsao Tsao.

Hubby’s first words when playing as Liang - “I shoot lasers… FROM MY PANTS!”

DW5 is a different style of game, more like a real-time first person hack-and-slash.

You play through some number of campaigns using your chosen character, and you get to see little cutscenes as the plot progresses. There’s also a lot of dialogue as you fight your way through, from the opponents that challenge you, and the allies that compliment your leet skills.

The most fun part, though, is running around mowing down all the low-level minions and gaining ‘experience’, and then challenging the other heroic warriors.

(And lasers! :D)

There also this insane old man who whacks people with floating tailsman.

This game is a riot to play, but unfortunately, not much different from Dynasty Warrior 4. I was hoping it has some features of Samurai Warriors, like the skill tree and the new combo system, but was solely disappointed that Koei is still contended to rehash an old game…
