Dunno if I did it wrong, not holding my legs right, or what. I tries to e-mail a page to myself for future reference, and when I clicked on the e-mail page link, it asked me to log on. I tried and it said my username/passowrd was wrong. I tried to post, and it worked, so I guess that means the cookie thing it ok.
Is there a trick to e-mailing a page, or is that turned off. Do I need the secret handhake/sign?
The feature was turned off this summer. During a major troll infestation, one of the trolls decided that a great way to screw with people was to e-mail them various threads over and over again. The worst part was because you could enter in what address it was being sent from, the troll made it look like other posters were the ones doing the sending. The administration turned off the feature because it was being outright abused by jerks, basically.
BTW- So, being “Lord” Vega, does that mean you outrank “Susan” Vega? Or does she outrank you? I’ve never been quite able to understand all those titles of nobility…
John has is right. The cheeky little buggers were sending e-mail impersonating moderators, too. I know of several instances of faked warnings supposedly issued by me.
To continue the Vega topic, my father served some of his naval career on the USS Vega.
Um, not to give anyone ideas, but isn’t it insanely easy to spoof the “from” field of an e-mail by other methods over which the mods have no control? From what I understand of it, a person could actually even do it accidentally.
Yeah, you could accidentally type in someone else’s email address and fall on the “send” button. It’s just that kind of offhand quirkiness that makes life the amusing adventure that it is.
Why, I had a safe fall on the “send” button just the other day. My advice? Be careful about them falling safes. Practice safe computing!
To answer your question, dear heart, you are doubtless correct but I prefer to wait until trouble troubles us, if you know what I mean (and I’m sure that you do). While we always appreciate the further pursuit of knowledge, this is an arena best left in the greater darkness of Ignorance, if you don’t mind.
