Earthquake in Idaho, Really

We’re FaceTiming with the Duckling who is now in Boise, Idaho. Oh my gosh, she says. Earthquake. So we watched real time footage of a 10 second earthquake. Probably not that bad, but they were shaking for a while. Just in. 6.3 in Western Idaho.

Fracking?

There are 29 wells in all of Idaho.

As of March 2017 according to the site.

Not likely to be fracking.

The epicenter was pretty near the epicenter of the 1983 earthquake and of similar magnitude. There is a geologic fault through that area.

It felt different than the 83 quake. More rolley and trembley and less shakey or jolty. Fairly gentle. Different type of wave I guess.(as experienced in the Boise area both times)

It took me a few seconds to realize it wasn’t the load of laundry in the washing machine going out of balance when it started.

Everything I see online (USGS included says it was a 6.5)

It’s also not that far from Yellowstone.

nm

So just the supervolcano waking up.
Now excuse me while I go put up my asteroid umbrella.

It’s not that close to Yellowstone. Heck it’s not even on the snake river plain, it’s in the mountains and closer to Boise than Yellowstone.

Dorkie!!!

How ya been, dood?

Lurking, now and then.
Busy, work has slowed some, but not much and our prodigal super sales guy has returned from northern idaho to save us from the economic doldrums of the beer virus.

This afternoon I’ve been gently rocked not shaken, served with a small wedge of red onion as garnish while wearing my best tuxedo all while wooing the russian counter intelligence beauties. Then the earthquake woke me up.

crap! reality! I should inspect my cracked foundation for more damage from this! No you jokers, I mean my house, not my mental well being

Hi Dork. Missed you.

TIL* that a “minor” earthquake and an unbalanced load of laundry make your house feel similar. Having only experienced the latter, I guess I can kinda see it, but I’d prefer to not find out in person.

  • Today I Learned

I’ve experienced both, and yes they’re similar.

Missed ya, Dork!

I’ve felt a half dozen minor earthquakes, and most of 'em feel more like an entire laundromat going unbalanced, not just your average load of underwear and socks.

( I live in Israel, home of the Dead Sea, which is the lowest place on earth, because the earth is sort of sinking around here. Usually pretty gradually, ya know, over the past million years… But the Syro-African rift moves periodically, and shakes us up a bit. )

So I do a search for stories about this, click on a link and start reading. It begins with the tale of a woman in an Albertsons during the quake.

Of course it does.

Anyone have a locust inundation?

To be fair, she works there. Coulda been any “(wo)man on the street” type of interview for quotes.

Let’s play “their” game.

It was because they passed anti-Transgender legislation and God is mad.

A cousin of mine was in a Dollar Tree in Boise when the earthquake hit. She went and stood in a doorway. Everyone else in the store just stood around and watch stuff fall off the shelves.
