Earthquake!

My sister has lived in Pacific Beach (northern suburb of San Diego) for 40 years and says she has never felt an earthquake that strong. She said the lights above the pool table were swaying 1.5 feet in each direction.

Could be because I was on the 8th floor of the building – takes longer for the shaking to damp out.

It lasted a good 40-45 seconds where I was (Mira Mesa), with one big jolt towards the end… fun!

Anger me no further or I will summon the thunder gods again!!!

Around Tempe here and I also say “Huh?” I did miss it too, but the niece that came from an Easter egg hunt in Scottsdale reports that that she did notice.

San Fernando Valley here. I didn’t feel it, but Mr. Rilch did; I could only tell by the window blinds swaying. Burned a pancake because I wasn’t going near the stove until I knew what was what. (I had bacon going too, so…)

YOU BURNED BACON?? There’s no excuse!

No, the bacon was fine. Just one pancake burned. Didn’t want the bacon grease to get on me!

Clairemont just above Costco. My wife and I think that the shaking was only for about 15 seconds.

I was playing Beatles Rock Band with my son and we both completely missed it!

My wife came up from the back of the house and laughed at us because we’d been so focused on the game we hadn’t felt a thing.

Rancho Bernardo here (well, Carmel Mountain Ranch) - a good 30 seconds of shaking, followed by several additional earthquakes/aftershocks over the next couple of hours.

I finally managed to get to the news from one of the closest cities, Mexicali.

The news so far from LaCronica of Mexicali: 2 dead and many wounded, damage reported in many locations throughout the city. There are also reports of collapses in the Baja California freeway. But Mexicali is still a city that is about 40 miles away from the epicenter, there are other cities closer to that epicenter, but no reports are here yet.

In LA

Just like the one a few weeks ago, I was half asleep…thought I dreamed it…again. Damn, no fun! :frowning:

Felt it in Irvine. Long, slow roller. Not nearly big enough to do any damage, but it really freaked out my friends who were visiting from back East.

I was at work and thought the building was moving. Considering that it is a fairly large hotel I thought a about it for a moment then decided it was a quake. One of the hotel operators confirmed it when I went down for a break. Apparently some of the guests called asking about it. They probably didn’t expect that in Vegas.

Slee

We were in PB, on the third floor in a condo, and it felt pretty darn powerful to me. The chandelier was going nuts; my husband finally reached out and grabbed it so it wouldn’t hit the wall/window. I was stunned it lasted so long (maybe 30 seconds). I kept waiting for it to end, but it just kept going and going.

According to this LA Times article, it lasted 25 seconds. My wife and i guessed 30, but i reckon it always seems longer than it is during something like that.

I’ve felt many shocks today, from Joe’s Crab Shack in SD for the first one <where nobody paid any attention but me, but things were SWINGING> through one on the way home to Imperial Valley that made the car get air. <Further down the road, the opposite lane had collapsed>
No real damage personally, but even in the Valley people have some doors off their hinges, concrete cracked, etc.

It must have happened while I was driving home from grocery shopping in Carson, as I was ignorant about it until turning on the TV when I got home.

I felt a little “creak!” in my computer desk about an hour ago, so I checked out the “Did you feel it?” site. Yep, a little 3.2 at 10.28.

Yar, still getting more aftershocks. Poor kitties. :stuck_out_tongue: They keep hiding behind the dryer…which is a good spot, as it’s well protected.

xkcd this morning speaks to this thread.
