Earthquake!

SoCal is rocking and rolling right now.

If this was an aftershock from yesterday, it surpassed it by far.

Ok, that was WAY longer and stronger than yesterday.

Preliminary is 7.1. Same fault as yesterday.

That’s a big quake. Guess it makes yesterday’s a foreshock.

Yeah this was big. I ran outside. Went on for like 90 seconds. Yesterday things that hang in my house were kind of swaying a bit, tonight they were swinging.

The long ones are the worst. You’re never sure if it is going to get worse and worse or if it is going to settle down.

Swaying to the seismic beat here near San Diego! Didn’t feel the 6.4 the other day but I sure felt this one.

I kept listening for something to fall somewhere. The swinging planters set off all the motion-detectors, so the yard lit up like high noon. It went through in a sine wave - low, then higher, then higher, then down the slope to the end.

Freaked the wife - the cats handled with aplomb.

My cats ran and hid as I was running outside.

USGS say 6.9.

My parents live about 150 miles as the crow flies from Ridgecrest. They felt yesterday’s. Bet they really felt this one.

Quick- change the channel! I’ll quote myself from the other thread:

I found [this video taken during a kid’s 4th of July performance yesterday](Yari Mower, a mother whose three children were performing “Our Country Tis of Thee” at Burroughs High School Performing Arts Center in Ridgecrest, Calif., captured the Thursday quake on camera.).

20 seconds in is the EQ.

Our dachshund slept through it! It was a little bouncier than yesterday, but the rolling is making me nauseated. We lost power for less than a minute. Scary one.

I’m now seeing this listed as 6.9, which is the same as the quake that ripped up San Francisco, Santa Cruz, etc. back in 1989.

ETA: Aftershocks rolling thru here just now.

Maybe this one is, too…

That’s what we’re all afraid of.

It’s no fair for an earthquake to come after I’ve had a couple of beers. My wife asked me if it stopped and I said, “Maybe?”

Yesterday, for the first maybe 3 seconds, I wasn’t sure if I was experiencing a weird vertigo or something. Then I remember thinking “geez I haven’t even smoked any weed yet” which is when I realized it must be an earthquake.

I was just watching the USGS press conference at Caltech and one of the reporters said something like “I’m hearing some people are saying it was an above ground earthquake.” And the USGS seismologist was like, “Well, that probably wasn’t a scientist whoever said that.” She guessed the depth data accidentally registered as a negative initially.

Or, you know, could be a fakequake.
