Every once in a while I “invent” (probably for the 4000th time in human history) a low-calorie dish that I prepare and eat until I’m so sick of it that I don’t eat it again for two years. Today I had the idea to microwave a plant-based hot dog (60 cal.) in a cabbage leaf with a schmear of mustard on the dog. Delicious! I plan to cook the entire package this week, get thoroughly disgusted by the thought of eating another one, and rediscover this simple recipe at some point in the distant future.
You do you. But I won’t be trying that soon.
On one hand, easy is good. And limiting calories when snacking is good.
On the other hand, I’m reminded of Jim Gaffigan’s comedy routine about seeing jars for sale at the grocery store that combine peanut butter and jelly. “Sure, I’d like a sandwich. But I can’t be opening and closing two jars, and wash who knows how many knives… “. The next step was to add croutons to the mix to eliminate the need for bread. Then to liquefy it to make it squeezable so no cutlery was needed…
But I’d like suggestions for my next easy, low-calorie meal after I get sick of this one. You’ve got another four or five days, max.
I think this sounds good. I’d probably get fancy and saute the cabbage leaf to get it browned a bit.
My daughters had burgers wrapped in lettuce instead of buns last night with a little aioli. The burgers were highly seasoned and the whole thing was pretty tasty.
Get an air fryer. Spray frozen dumplings, sausage, chimichanga or some chicken balls with oil. Heat on high 5-8 minutes. Serve with salsa, mustard or honey. Fantastic -usually much tastier than the microwave.
