Easy way to donate cash to the Red Cross

There is a link on the front page so you can donate from $1 on up.

Zette

Thank you for the link, Zette! You must be psychic, I was just about to post a question as to where I can make donations. I may not be able to help directly, but I sure as hell want to do what I can.

Great Link!!! I sent it to my roomate who was having trouble contributing on Yahoo. We can all make a difference in the face of this madness. I’m giving blood & giving this post a big thumbs up (and a bump). - JC

Thanks, Zette. Done.

Thanks for the link, Zette. I wish there was more I could do right now than just pray and donate blood (we’re having a blood drive here on campus on Monday) and a little bit of money, but I suppose every little bit helps.

I think every little bit does help, even a dollar. The Amazon site is really easy to use, especially if you are already a customer of theirs.

Zette

Thanks Zette. I was hoping there’d be something like this up.

I posted it to my company’s intranet as well.

This post mentions some other options.

I’m a college student, and I don’t have a credit card. Does anyone know to whom I could send a check?

Gunhilde, call the local Red Cross, or United Way. The Red Cross can be reached at 1-800 HELP NOW. Their website at http://www.redcross.org/ has links to find a local chapter, or to let you donate. Or you can send a check to:

American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
PO Box 37243
Washington, DC 20013

Medical volunteers are also needed in the areas.
I’m sure most of those that are available have been called upon already, but if you or someone you know might help,Doctors without borders has phone numbers to call to volunteer.
Physicians in NY area can call 212-604-7887,
Registered Nurses call 212-604-8474.

For a list of other organizations, there’s NVOAD (National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) at http://www.nvoad.org (see their national member list).

My dad phoned and said my tax rebate check was delivered there today. Up until now I was trying to decide where to donate it; I think my options are clearer.

I’ve been upset all year that I can’t give blood (visiting malaria area in last 12 mos.), so this money is good to be able to give.

Some additional numbers from the NY government page:

For those individuals wishing to volunteer or contribute personnel
Registered Nurses and Emergency Medical Services 1-800-628-0193

Doctors should call 1-518-431-7600

Please direct other volunteers or contributors to 1-800-801-8092

The United Way of NYC has now also sent up a special September 11th Fund to help victims (survivors) and their families.

Has anybody noticed the speed at which money is being donated at Amazon? At 12:30 this afternoon (CST) the total was about $620,000. Right now, at 6:45 pm, it’s over $1.3 million. That’s something like $2000 every minute.

Wow.

There’s even veterinary organizations that set up field hospitals to treat pets and service dogs. I wish I could go, but of course, I can’t.

I did give a little money over at the Amazon site. Not much, but I’m pretty broke myself.

If you’re in the Midwest or West and don’t want to use a credit card any U.S. Bank or Firstar Bank will accept any donations and forward it to the Red Cross. Other banks are probably also setting up Disaster Relief Funds for the same purpose.

In an article from MSNBC.com, they talk about how Scam Artists are already trying to get you to their websites so that they can steal your credit card info.

Please donate, but don’t throw your normal cautions aside.

The amazon donation bin is up to $3.5 million!!

Wow!
