An election and a war and the general welfare of the US are just a little more important that a game. Besides which, Bush is still doing damage right now; once a game is over, it’s over. Bad analogy.
And once an election is over, it’s over. The analogy works for me.
Because it’s nonsensical and also a recipe for future losses. Instead of realizing that they are too far left and working to move to the center, IME most liberals are stamping their foot and shrieking “No! I’m right and you better listen to me!” Yes, GWB’s victory in '04 was a slim one, but I think the grave mistake the left is making is assuming that all those people who held their nose and voted for Kerry (like me) are endorsing their position, rather than recognizing that many of them were simply voting AGAINST Bush, not FOR the left’s agenda. I keep waiting for someone on the left to put forth a coherent plan on what they want to do, but all I hear is more of the same “I’m not Bush” crap and revisionalist history over the war advanced only for partisan political purposes. I never thought I could be more disgusted with a political party than I was at the Republican party with their odious impeachment of Clinton, but the Dems are acting worse now. Frankly, if the election were held again today, this time I would probably vote for Bush. At least he’s consistent.
As for the speech, I thought it was quite good. Short, to the point, and accurate. Plus, Family guy was delayed, not preempted, so I still got to see that in it’s entirety.
No it’s not. First, quite a few people don’t believe the results, and second Bush is still there.
It worked for the right. Besides, what’s the point of moving even farther to the right; that’s just another way of losing.
Being consistently bad is not a virtue.
Just shy, my foot! The only thing that put Chimpy Bushler back in the White House was election fraud in Ohio.
Worked for Gray Davis, too.
And my guess is you are a little cunt who is still trying to perpetuate the bullshit proposition that people on the left side of the political spectrum are weaklings. Fuck you, you stupid pussy. I’m quite confident that the prevalence of people identifying on the left side of the spectrum who have played in competitive sports is at least equal that of the right, and is even greater if you discount polo and shuffleboard.
As for the whining of the right - they’ve made fucking careers out of it, getting millions of dittoheads to tune in with regularity to know just what the next thing they should be whining about really is.
Pussy.
A president who truly serves our national interest would have pre-empted that stupid sitcom that’s hammocked between the Simpsons & Family Guy instead.
Wow, extremely good point. That show is amazingly bad.
Heh. All you need to do to convince me of this is to prove that One Single Vote was fraudulently altered.
What? No proof yet? Didn’t think so.
Y’all remind me of the football fans of a certain university located on the left side of my fair state. According to them, they never get whipped fair & square. Either the other team was lucky or the refs cheated 'em.
But not more important than a cartoon, I take it?
I have a question, why did they even broadcast it? I thought the networks had gotten sick of the president making prime time speaches where absolutely nothing new was said and it was just rehashing the same message. I seem to recall this happening a couple months ago where they were not going to broadcast one of these speaches, caved at the last minute becuase the white house said the message was going to be new and critical, and then in turned out to be just the same thing over again.
I’m not quite familiar enough with Alabama geography to know which school that is. Can you enlighten me?
As for Ohio, feast yourself on the bounty Can you prove any of it in court? No, the crooks are far to clever to leave smoking guns. What you can do is show patterns of disenfranchisement and the differences between results in precincts with paper ballots and machine ballots, plus the statistical anomalies between the exit polls and the ballot counts. The probability of the exit polls being so consistently wrong in one direction is vanishingly small.
How often are we going to be subjected to these Bunkerside Chats? Until reality conforms to Bush’s insulated perceptions?
Since when is it up to the networks to decide when the President can address the American people?
Family Guy wasn’t even interrupted. It was just delayed. As soon as the speech was over Family Guy started from the beginning and nothing was missed. People’s Tivo’s might not have picked it up, though.
It’s funny that people have such huge objections to this when at the same time we regularly see dopers bemoaning the lack of political awareness of typical Americans.
BTW, I thought the speach was good. Progress is being made, and it’s been a while since Bush has done a prime time speech like this that I can recall.
Like, OmIgAwDZ!!!1111!!! When it gets in the way of vitally important Family Guy time!11!!! DuH!!!111
Translation: “I can’t accept the results, so I’m going to believe, without any evidence, that the other guys cheated, because otherwise I would have to accept that I was WRONG and that Senator Kerry LOST.” In other words, Bob would rather embrace a comfortable delusion rather than accept an unpleasant reality.
I can “prove” that numerical codes found in the Bible accurately predict the rise of Hitler, the 9/11 attacks and the presidency of John F. Kennedy. That doesn’t mean you aren’t a fool if you believe it. Next time try to work some black hellicopters into the theory. It’s important to respect tradition.
I just wanted to point out that the swaggering, chest-thumping “We won, you’re losers” and “You’re a bunch of unathletic pussies” isn’t really inspiring my open mind to vote for your guy next time.
And saying “Eat my shit, GWB, and don’t you ever interrupt my television programming again” is supposed to get me to vote Democratic?
