Eating chicken with a fork.

At the best BBQ joint near my university, you could buy a BBQ chicken sandwich or a half BBQ chicken sandwich. The former was an entire chicken between two pieces of white bread, and the latter was half a chicken between two pieces of white bread.

Since you’re in Chicago, have you had a chance to try Harold’s Chicken Shack? If you’re in one of the neighborhoods with them, try it out. The secret? Half of the fat in the fryer is beef tallow! And I was wondering why it was so good!

Back on topic, I can eat chicken pretty well with a knife and fork, but a fork alone can be difficult. I also tend to eat finger foods (ribs, chicken, etc) with just one hand. For my greatest trick though, I can easily eat wings (separated drumettes and wings) with chopsticks. It’s very handy when you don’t feel like getting your hands dirty.

Oh, yeah, of course. Their quality varies wildly by location, though. My favorite is the Evanston Chicken Shack (which is not a Harold’s).

Ha!

I promise.
Today I picked up three samples, and ate one leg of each while still hot. Were we go:
Popeye’s spicy. Flavor’s prtty good, but breading was actually tough and chewy. Not bad, but disappointing.

Church’s spicy. Now this was good. Perfect spice, crispy but tender breading, moist meat. This is easily the best of all three breaded legs.

KFC’s grilled. This was really tasty, and the skin was nicely crisp. The flavor was different than the others and the meat moist. I liked it.

My favorites overall, counting all I tried, would be Church’s spicy and KFC grilled for variety.
Oh how I suffer for my people!
BTW; it’s a little known secret that Denny’s has (had?) excellent fried chicken dinners. I haven’t been there in years though.

I had Church’s plain on Thursday. I think what I like about it is that it doesn’t have thick layer of breading, but instead a light layer of flouring. That makes the skin truly crisp on its own as opposed to because of the breading. Makes it healthier!

'Zactly!
They’re now my “go to” chicken place.

If I’m going to KFC to get the crispy chicken, I might as well go across the street (literally) to get Popeye’s instead. Up until a few years ago, you couldn’t even determine what pieces were in a bucket from KFC, they had such an odd way of cutting up chicken. But Popeye’s has always been about breast, wing, thigh, leg. To me, KFC is just crappy, generic chicken. But at least it’s not Raising Cain’s.
