When I was a kid, original recipe was all there was and I loved it. Then, they came out with extra crispy and I don’t think I’ve ordered original since.

Sadly for me, I avoid fast food except in cases of extreme emergency, so I haven’t had KFC in a decade or more. But their chicken is so vividly deliciously flavored that, assuming the recipe hasn’t changed,I have no problem recollecting what both regular and extra crispy are like.

I voted “extra crispy” but the regular is a close second.

I feel like you can’t trust KFC to give you a consistant product. It can be delicious or awful. Cold greasy old sour.
They are doing their best to cheapen their product while there are new types of chicken shops opening up Maybe middle America towns where this is a treat meal can keep the franchise alive.

It’s probably been between 5-10 years since I’ve had KFC. Probably closer to the latter half of the range. It used to be something my wife liked from time to time if we needed fast food, because she liked the popcorn chicken.

Ding ding ding of a bell going off later for her, she liked it because there was tons of breading and little meat flavor for that option, as she realized she’d never liked meat and had been covering it up the whole time. She’s happily vegetarian now.

For me, as a kid, I preferred the extra crispy for the crunch, but always thought that the OG tasted better, I just didn’t like the texture if (especially as @Beesnest pointed out) it was in any way cooked too short, or left too long.

So, it was OG for me, but there are so many better choices out there, or equivalent choices at lower costs, that I just have no reason to go.

OG?

(discourse)

I havent had either in years. But if were told I had only 6 months to live I’m a gettin’ a bucket of extra crispy a few more times. With biscuits and a regular Coke.

“Original gangster.” Just refers to the original, superior, form of something. Probably popularized (but not originated) by this album:

I still prefer it. Either one can be a greasy mess depending on the individual store but if it’s done right I still prefer original. Extra crispy is ok also.

I’m not sure why but this vignette cracks me up because it sounds like a female who is dutifully straight who isn’t really into sex, but then for some reason accidentally kisses a girl, realizes she’s never liked men and had been covering it up and is happily lesbian now.

More power to the vegetarians and lesbians, I say!

This certainly has been going on for years with their sauces and some of their sides. They changed their name from “Kentucky Fried Chicken” to “KFC” to get rid of the unhealthy stigma of “fried”, but I’m not sure it’s helping their image.

I’m surprised at the number of posters who haven’t been to KFC in many years. I haven’t, either, probably for many decades. I’ve generally found KFC chicken to be tasty, but for some strange reason on at least two occasions I’ve had it dislodge a filling or otherwise cause some tooth damage, so I avoid it now, besides for the health reasons. Strangely, I can gnaw on things like ribs or chicken wings with no problem at all.

Extra Crispy wasn’t a thing where I was growing up. I’m not entirely sure it’s a thing now, it may only be available for specific menu items. So OG recipe for me.

Thanks!

Canada never had Extra Crispy. Colonel Sanders spent his later years living in Canada after he sold KFC and thought the US destroyed his recipes and encouraged the Canadian operators to maintain the old ones.

I voted, but I don’t eat KFC (or fast food in general) and haven’t had any for 15+ years. When I was traveling internationally for business I ate it on the road because it was reliably consistent, whether I was in China, Italy, or the UK. That’s about the only thing good I can say about it.

KFC anywhere in the world is better than the US. There are differences in the franchise contracts that give KFC a lot more control in international franchise agreements than domestic ones.

I generally prefer Popeye’s, whose product is much more consistent and which has better deals, sauces and sides.

Agreed, and if you have one close to you try Mary Brown’s. Their chicken sandwiches are even better.

Original. Our local KFC is going downhill, sometimes I’ll go there and they’ll be out of breasts. Their cole slaw used to be great but sometimes I find it quite nasty. Still I prefer KFC to Chik-fil-a.

My SO prefers Original; we typically get their six piece meal deal, plus a single Extra Crispy breast for myself. Last time we did that, the EC was much better than the other six.

Not in our part of the DC suburbs. The Popeye’s within walking distance recently downsized their menu – no more cajun rice nor green beans and I’m very picky about coleslaw.

Popeye’s has given me decent fried chicken more often than KFC. Both of them have fallen short at times. In the past 25 years I’ve had neither one very often. They’ve both been declining for that long. I’ve heard fried chicken on the bone is losing popularity too, nuggets, tenders, and sandwiches seem to be taking over. It’s probably easier to maintain consistency with those.
