"Eating OUT..." not such a great idea.

Americans spend over a billion dollars a day on food away from home. Almost every one I know has commented in one way or another how much it costs to eat out these days.
Aluminum cans and frozen packaging…thats not nutrition, its behavior modification.

Ever read a label on food?
They think so little of our intelligence, they list all the stuff they put into our food to kill us, right on the label.

and most of us eat it anyways?
yikes

I think learning to cook for yourself and family is a skill worth conceiving, to excruciating pinnicles of completion.

not to mention…sexy.

at least untill the terminator seeds come into extreme effect.

Whatever it was that you just ingested, maybe you should have read the label first…

This doesn’t have anything to do with what I thought it was going to be about.

:stuck_out_tongue:

didn’t mean to dissapoint you.
you can go back to your big mac now.

Yeah! “Descriptive thread titles”, my ass!

Eating out of a garbage can maybe, but eating out at a restaurant means no dishes.

Wow - inappropriately harsh and kinda clueless, Gwyllian.
Knead wasn’t commenting on your topic, but rather your thread title. And face it, your thread title is ambiguous - with the word “OUT” capitalized, it could easily have sexual/gay connotations, etc…

If you want to discuss your topic, maybe call it “Why do people eat out so much?” or “Why don’t people prepare their own food more?”.

and lighten up.

Who are “they” and why do they want to kill us?

I am SO disappointed. I was about to say “I think it’s an idea whos time has definately come!”, then I rethought the wording. Hmmmm…

Anyhoo, yeah- people eat crap. Such is life. Eat what you want and don’t worry about others- they’ll do what they want anyway.

I can agree with some of the rant that I understand- it’s very difficult to eat a healthy meal out. (In my area, anyway). I mostly have chain type restaurants around me, and even seemingly healthy foods are loaded with fat and calories. I"m on WW and losing weight well, and one thing I’ve done is stopped eating out for the time being. It’s just too hard to find healthy meals here.

Eating out all the time has made me all fat and unhealthy. I’m going to sue!

What do you consider away from home? I don’t own a farm, so I can’t grow my own stuff, so EVERYTHING I eat originated away from home. If you are talking about restaurants; I would love to know what restaurant serves food in frozen packaging.

Did I ever read the label? Oh my God, you know what? I don’t think I EVER read the label!?!?! Why would I? I trust Sara Lee, I trust the Jolly Green Giant! If they sell me corn and pastries then why should I, the hapless consumer, dare to take a venture at what their food is made of? To do so would be a violation of the sacred trust they have given me! But now that I know, I shall keep my ever watchful eye on the lookout for corn + cyanide.
Did you know they HAVE to put that bile on the label?

What do you consider learning to cook? Becoming a chef? Otherwise I’m pretty sure everyone here knows how to make pancakes and warm up soup.

Terminator seeds? What are those? Little Arnolds running around, jumping down my gullet in an effort to kill me from within?

Btw if ‘they’ kill all of us, ‘they’ will go out of business.

And what exactly is it that they put in our food to kill us?

How are aluminum cans and frozen packaging behavior modification?

Ethilrist-They put “nutrients” in the food!

Ahh. the “Nutrients”

That’s why I don’t eat.

Yes, let’s all subsist off of water…woah, I gotta go pee…

I can warm up soup and can scramble an egg, but my culinary skills go downhill from there. Not that I don’t try: I just end up with a mess. My ‘Silver Dollar Pancakes’ end up as ‘Small Change’. Really. Ever see pancakes crumble? C’mon over for breakfast some time.

I’ve even had (former)Roommate [who is a wonderful cook] work with me on different cooking projects: he measured out the ingredients, prepped the cooking area, and watched me stir, mix, beat, whip, puree and all the other lovely cooking verbs (not all on one project, mind you. Mostly the same results - bleah!

For the safety of the tastebuds, we decided he would do the cooking, and I do the clean-up. Much less stressfuul that way, and no one starves or has indigestion.

This is a sort-of on-topic comment:

My family used to buy our bread at the grocery store. Then about 5 years ago, on a lark, my mom made a few loaves herself. This evolved into making two loaves every Sunday morning (to last the week). Not only is it cheaper (we buy flour and whatnot at Sam’s Club; the total cost per loaf is about 32¢), but it tastes better. The only drawback I see is that, come end of the week, it’s not oh-so-soft and fluffy anymore.

But seriously, I can’t stand store bread anymore. It just tastes… funky and chemical-ish. It’s nice and soft and fluffy, but the taste is oogy.

Heh, I’m living at home now while at college; sounds like when I move out, I had better learn how to make my own bread, eh?

Screech-owl-Well you can scramble an egg, which is a lot more than my grandmother could do and she got a masters in HOME ED.!! Cripes her eggs sucked. They would be consistently runny and have bits of white in them. Apparantly she didn’t have the patience to finish scrambling them puppies.
