the bastards have “redesigned” some of ebay motors and made it much! more difficult for me and when i bitched, they basically told me to get stuffed, so i will no longer conduct business with ebay!, here is my story:
everyday! i go (went) to: ebay.com
ebay motors
motorcycle parts and accessories
british and european
so i could scan around for any junk er priceless treasures that i can not live without, the stuff i look for is suitable for a bunch of different manufacturers bikes so having it lumped into “british and european” was perfect, i generally looked through ~4,000 new entries daily, with the “new improved” search i have to wade through ~50,000 entries to do the same thing.
the lovely folks at ebay say “oh no, this new system is vastly superior”, even after i explained to them that a lot! of these parts come from different manufacturers and fit various bikes, i even provided them with a list of manufacturers that i would have to run searches on (i’ll spare you, it’s long, ~25 - 30).
so, if you run an online auction house, get over to www.britbike.com and you could easily get the entire british bike community as customers tomorrow.
ok, the pointless rant that no one but me cares about is now over, phew!, i feel better.
I hear you…I noticed the same thing last night, when searching for harley parts.
Try this, search for (bsa, norton, triumph) …that should in theory return ads with any of those things…
But their search function doesnt always behave logically.
I hate the new system, but its a huge market…In fact, I will probably be putting up some ads for some amal carbs and some other brit and harley stuff I got laying around this weekend.
this is a fine example of the problem, if you list them as amal carbs they will not come up if i search for norton, triumph or bsa, i have explained this to ebay, one of the guys on www.britbike.com
had an awesome idea, list parts as “b&e amal carb” (or whatever), that way i can search for b&e and find the parts.
ebay sucks, they have pissed off the british bike community
I was gonna post a rant about the Ebay search engine. A search for “antique” won’t pull up ads with “antiques.” I think I programmed a search engine equivalent to that of Ebay’s on my Apple II plus. The Apple did have 64k of ram vs. the usual 48 though.
I bought a t-shirt a few years ago that said
“the parts falling off this motorcycle represent the best of british engineering”
I loved it, it wore out quickly.
