Ed Asner is a truther!?

So I’m listening to The Adam Carolla podcast this morning with Ed and his son as guests. At some point Ed starts talking about how he doesn’t believe 9/11 and begins spewing all the batshit crazy truther theories.

Damn. DAMN! There is no way Lou Grant would believe that insane shit.

Thankfully Adam is intelligent and tried talking sense to Asner, but like with most conspiracy nuts it fell on deaf ears.

Nobody’s perfect, he’s still a lovable curmudgeon.

Well, once you attach a bunch of balloons to your house and fly it to South America, your connection to reality is tenuous, at best.

He’s an 81 year old man. He is an actor.

He has no more ability to critically analyze facts than any other 81 year old - his former acting roles do not give him more wisdom than anyone else.

I don’t think it’s a new thing with him to say crazy shit. He’s been a communist and supporter of Fidel Castro for a long time.

Critically analyze?

It’s like believing the earth is flat.

Dude kicks ass on celeb Jeopardy. He has(had ? :() credibility as a smart educated man in general.

Oh Lou!!

</MTM Voice>

Not so fast…

Remember the Mary Tyler Moore Show episode where Mary got a chain letter from her Mr Grant. And Mary tossed it in the garbage and Lou retrieved it and suggested that he spent a lot of time on it and considered a lot of people before choosing Mary and he suggested it would be in Mary’s best interest to answer the letter and not break the chain

So of course Mary does this and sends the letter out and instead of money gets a date, with typical hillarous results

Rhoda)* Mary you’re the only person in the world who can answer a chain letter and get a man*

I’m not surprised. Asner is a longtime supporter of radical left causes. He supported Mumia Abu-Jamal, the (Julius and Ethel) Rosenberg Fund for Children, and Democratic Socialists of America. Now I am not one of those people who automatically bashes anything that’s far-left politically, however there is no denying that there is a strain of the far left right now which embraces the 9/11 truth BS. Just in my hometown alone there’s a lot of Truther sentiment among the rap, hip-hop, and Rage Against the Machine type college kids and hipsters, tied in with left-wing political sentiment and general nebulous “fight the power” Trustafarianism.

Hopefully Asner could sue you for slander for the communist remark. I do remember Lou Grant being canceled by CBS after they received twelve letters complaining that Asner had spoken out against the rape and murder of three Roman Catholic nuns by El Salvadorian soldiers. He’d been approached by the nun’s order and asked to help.

I’m sorry to hear he’s a truther. I miss Lou Grant.

I wish we could get the Oprah-viewing segment of our society to understand this.

Pretty much the way I see it. Asner’s on the left and he’s apparently willing to believe anything bad about the Bush administration regardless of the evidence because he wants to believe it’s true. But that attitude makes the truthers no different that the birthers or the swifties.

I don’t think he’s going to sue.

Maybe someone should tell him the truthers have spunk. After all, he hates spunk.

FWIW, just last night a dear friend emailed me the following:

Bravo!

However, quite curiously, just this very day I was thinking of him. The first episode where he shows up at Mary’s house drunk, and says that Mary has a ‘great caboose.’ Mary cackles something, and Mr. Grant says “…my wife’s caboose is better.” Dunno why I was thinking about that…

handsomeharry

Didn’t she always call him Mr. Grant?

Best wishes,
hh

I loved that Asner’s CTs came after Adam’s typical Jewish humor, and Adam says something to the effect of “…right after Ed Asner Kicks my ass.”

BTW, I could actually hear Asner’s son Matt crawling under the table.

Haha. It definitely felt awkward for his son, but then he started spewing the same shit.

Hearing it all really bugged me. I don’t understand what can cause a person to believe such things. I wish Carolla showed less respect for his guest and said what I’m sure he was screaming in the inside.

It’s sad; I’d love to see humanity abandon religion, but now I fear it’d be replaced in the annoyance department by moron conspiracy theorists.
