How’d you know I was an Electrician?
I have been kind of busy and have missed a lot lately, apparently. What is the big fooferaw? I read the rule changes, but nothing really struck me as being too totalitarian? Did I miss something?
(I’m serious, is there something sinsiter going on I am not cognizant of?)
I consider **raindog **to be in the category of people described in the first post of this thread.
The bad news is that I have no creativity. None.
The good news is that I’m not abusive, and therefore not likely to be banned under the new rules.
That’s why Ed likes me so much, and why he made these rules, just for me.
shrug You are not the only poster who supports “New and Improved Pit” rule #2. IIRC, there were at least two other regular members who voiced similar opinions to yours.
It’s clear to you (and me) that the voices in dissent are being politely ignored. The deciderer has made the call. Them’s the breaks. Even some of the dissenters realise this. Never-the-less, they feel the need to voice their opinion anyway. (What’s the term? “Cathargic”? “Catharsis”?)
Yet, you feel the need to call them childish for this. Not very classy, IM humble O. Thanks for blazing the trail into the new (and more enlightened) age of the SDMB.
It’s a bit longwinded, but most of the official responses are withing the first 5 pages, if I recall correctly.
If effect, rule #2 says that you can insult another poster (in the Pit only), but not be abusive. Trying to get a clear picture of what’s an “abusive” insult or not is not made very clear, hence the confusion and worries.
I must run. I suspect I’m one of the few who will contribute to this thread who’s actually employed.
I do have a question for the Pit Intelligentsia:
I’ve long admired posters who get pitted with such stunning regularity. Liberal can make a punctuation error and he’ll be pitted immediately.
Is my post count per day too low? Am I not controversial enough? Did I take my thumb out of tomndebb’s eye prematurely?
I despaired that I’d never get my day in The Pit Sun.
But here I am being insulted. The problem is, it’s my thread!
One can’t arrange their own pitting can they? (although that was not my intent…)
While there is a certain amount of this any time the board changes a policy, there are a great many posters that are pointing out legitimate issues in a very reasonable manner. I expressed my concern and asked a simple question in the original and this follow up thread:
All I’m asking for is a yes or no, not threatening to stomp off and leave the board as I ask. The answer to this question would clarify in my mind (and evidently others as well) how this policy would work. That’s all, no childish, petulant behavior. A concrete example, no hypotheticals, just tell me what would happen.
Thanks. I guess it didn’t register with me because I don’t really ever attack other posters. Their ideas, sure, but how can I abuse someone I have never met?
Heh. You don’t own this thread. You just started it.
I dunno. This does seem to be a case of someone looking for attention, but I could be wrong.
Nobody seems to want to acknowledge the meat of his post- that people are pissy because they don’t have a place to vent.
Seriously?
Where else but on a message board do you find some special room where you can go and hurl invective at people?
If not having a forum where you can call people fucktards is a deal breaker for you, you may wish to start considering whether or not you’re a complete and utter tool.
Anyway, you can abuse people all you want over on the YouTube forums, you know. Go vent there.
You may actually be right. I’ve long felt like I’ve been living in Diogenes’s shadow.
This may be my cry for help.
We don’t know, because the definitions seem somewhat subjective at the moment. I too, usually remain polite towards other posters (although I do occasionally use a cuss-word in a general way), so I doubt I will run afoul of the tighter restrictions.
PS: “It’s ok if it makes us laugh.” was actually stated in there, somewhere, by Ed Zotti. It’s discriminatory against those of us who are not budding Hemingway’s, I tells ya!
Actually, there are at least three message boards that derive from the SDMB, but are independent of it. One started yesterday, and the other two have been going on a lot longer. I won’t cite their names or locations, because I’m not sure if that’s within the SDMB rules, but a lot of people posting here know about them, and you can certainly vent there.
If the board (more specifically, the BBQ Pit) was set up from the get-go as a “family friendly” environment, I would agree with you.
However, this is seen (and is stated by Ed as such) a change to an existing standard. The ka-bitzing is not surprising to me.
heh. I usually just go get a cookie. (Or a donut, on a really bad day…)
My very most heartfelt, visceral REGARDS to the OP.
Okay, but so what? Does anyone actually say, “I think I’ll sign up for the SDMB because they’ve got a forum you can tell people to fuck themselves in”?
It’s always been subjective, hasn’t it?
Ladies and gentlemen, his post is his cite. The question arises though: since you’re so uncreative, how can you possibly consider yourself qualified to judge your betters?
It’s interesting that your attitude is “Yo, lackies. Amuse me”.
Well, see, under the old rules, the sort of broad-brush posting you’ve been doing would have been considered “jerkish” and you’d have been warned and banned under the “Don’t be a jerk” rule.
I don’t know how (or if) that’s been changed under the new rules, but I anticipate finding out
