TBH, I have no idea whether you’re allowed to link to an off-board forum. I don’t see why not.
Anyway, why do you need to rant? You’re a grown-up (presumably). If you disagree with something somebody posted, just say so in the original thread and move on. Posting a rant about it is about as productive as yelling at your monitor.
If you want to rant about the bitch who cut you off in traffic, or the deadbeat dad who isn’t paying your sister child support, or the guy who cut off his wife’s nipples in a drunken rage, you can still do those things.
That’s a flipped mirror (?) argument about the complaints over the way the Pit was before.
“Don’t like the strong language? Tough. Grow thicker skin, or go back to MSPIMS.”
For a time, that flipped argument was what held sway, now it is changed. (Well… modified.)
Is it the end of western civ? Of course not. Banning “offensive” rap music from the radio would not cause us to revert to the stone age (after all, you can still buy the album/CD’s), but you would agree, wouldn’t you, that there would be squaking?
In fact I have never pitted anybody (until today), however, I feel the pit had a function in this board allowing things like Cervaise’s telemarketer rant, for example, a function that has been removed now.
And for linking to another forums, should we then open pit threads with just a link to another forum where we can say what we really want without self-appointed “adults” telling us what we can say and what we cannot say?.
Yes, but you’re a moron, so really, “as far as you know” really doesn’t cover much ground, does it?
No, I think it took 1000 posts (from over two hundred different posters, mind) to point out that the rule was impractical, poorly considered, and wholly unnecessary. The point isn’t that clarification isn’t necessary, the point is that clarification is impossible, because even Ed didn’t know what it was supposed to mean, as evidenced by his here.
“Offensive” rap music is banned from the radio- actually, it’s more strictly regulated than music in general, because although there is no FCC ruling or regulation prohibiting use of the word nigger in radio broadcasts, stations censor it themselves.
How has that function been removed? I don’t remember the rant in question, but unless Cervaise was pitting another poster who was also a telemarketer, nothing in the new rules says he can’t post it again.
The new prohibition everyone is bitching about is #5- you can’t abuse other posters. You can still abuse celebrities, random people on the street, telemarketers, or just about anyone else you want.
(US, slang, pejorative) A person with unlikable or obnoxious qualities and behavior, typically mean, self-centered or disagreeable, and often not very intelligent.
Yes, he did post it about another poster who was also a telemarketer. That’s the whole beauty of the rant; someone was posting bullshit on the board and he ripped them a new one for it.
Was/is there not “bitching” from the customer base? I seem to recall some folks claiming that the radio stations may have been acting in a “biased” way towards a different culture.
Take a moment from your busy work schedule, if you would, and re-read the above, and if you have a moment your own contributions to this thread and to the message board as a whole. You are smug, stupid, and a bad writer. Your posts over the last few days have been nothing but self-congratulatory gloating, peppered with what I’m sure you think are witty one-liners (“Can I bite you once, and we’ll see how that goes? HAW HAW HAW”) that are in reality on the approximate intellectual level of, say, fifth graders texting in Social Studies.
You like the new rules because you believe they will elevate the tone and intelligence of the board, and yet every time you, yourself, post, you manage to - without notionally “childish” profanity - lower the posting standards here more than any “fuck” or “cunt” ever has. With every post, you make this place more juvenile, more pointlessly antagonistic, and more stupid.
And this is why I object to this new policy: because it purports to raise the tone of the board by allowing a tool like you completely free rein to post nothing of interest in an uninteresting fashion, while putting restrictions on the people who have something to say and are capable of using the English language to good effect - the people who recognize the essential truth that no particular word or combination of words is inherently “classier,” “smarter,” or “more elevated” than any other.
Oh man, now you were doing just fine until this gratuitous, arrogant and completely unnecessary jab. Being unemployed in today’s economy is not a mark of laziness or stupidity. I, for one, am unemployed because I retired after over 40 years of hard work, and don’t consider myself to be the lesser of the two of us. You were taking comments in good humor and then fell right on your kiester with this remark.
storyteller, are you saying you don’t find this Pit thread to be a veritable Algonquin round table, destined to dispel everyone’s reservations about the new Pit rules and their ability to raise the tone around here?
Raindog, this is the most juvenile, ass-licking, junior-modding, pussified post I’ve ever seen. Complete with a list of people you think the favor you’ve garnered will help you get banned. That’s the most dickish thing I’ve ever seen, and that’s coming from the guy who just said this:
I wonder what your childhood was like to make you like this. I think I’ll ask your mom tonight while I’m wiping off my dick with her hair.
(Note: I made every attempt to conform the abaove to the pit rules as I understand them.)
