Suck douchewater, poodledick.
Bullshit. Are you deluded?
If Ed really wants things to go on exactly as before, then why was the rule change necessary at all? In fact, Ed has made very clear that he does not want things to go on exactly as before. If the rule had be clarified as merely the banning of the word “cunt” in reference to other posters, you might have a scintilla of a point, but the precise issue here is that the rule is as clear as mud, and for that reason only people like you, who have nothing but mud between the ears, are claiming to understand it.
Can you get it through your thick skull that saying “Things really need to change around here, so we are instituting new rules” and then saying “We don’t think the new rules will really change anything” is completely contradictory?
And yet it seems pretty clear to me that if i post as i have posted previously, i will, in fact, run afoul of the new rules before too long. And that’s leaving aside the whole issue of the word “cunt.”
I’ve called three different people “fucking moron” in the fairly recent past. Does that qualify as abusive, in your reading of Ed’s rules? If it does, then it seems that i won’t be around very long, despite your argument that i should be “carrying on business as usual” and “won’t be affected.” And if calling someone a “fucking moron” does NOT qualify as abusive, then the rule has no meaning and is completely pointless. Do you really think there is any possible context or scenario where calling someone a “fucking moron” would not be considered abusive? If you do, then you’re a fucking moron.
And yet your presence in this thread is evidence that, as long as it’s not abuse, the most juvenile, vile, and stupid drivel will be tolerated without a problem.
Yeah, and you’re the one to tell us. Witless asshole.
Actually, i made quite clear in the other thread that, if Ed would stop fucking with the place, i’d be happy to give up my Charter Member status and cough up 30 bucks a year to contribute to its financial health.
Not only that, but back in the dim, distant days before pay-to-post was introduced, there were plenty of people offering to donate to the SDMB to help cover running costs.
Why don’t you fucking leave, asshole?
If you go, it certainly will.
Well, there’s your answer: Cervaise says, “fuck it, I’ll post whatever I want anyway.”
First they came for the “fuck you” posters, and you remained unaffected, because you don’t say “fuck you”…
Cervaise did not post what he wanted i think.
However, I think a good idea would be to do just that, post whatever we want and dont give a flying fuck about rule #2
Are people upset because they won’t be able to say what they want or because they don’t know if what they say will get them in trouble. I mean if the rule was crystal clear and said you cannot say, “fuck you” then folks would be fine and say, “OK, I won’t say that”. Or are folks be in an uproar because the can’t say “fuck you” anymore.
Mostly what upsets me is the limitation to the freedom to say anything i want in the pit, however if it was limited to simply “fuck you”, i’ll consider it stupid but would not be so upset.
The current rule #2 is so vague that, in practice, it forbids a lot more than simply saying “fuck you”.
An example: At one point, someone asked if “go to hell asshole” would be permissable. Ed said no. Then someone DID call someone an asshole in a Pit thread later, it was reported, and Ed said it was okay.
Da’hell?
But apparently now, trolling IS allowed, if the OP is anything to go by. Because that’s exactly what this is. “Ha ha!!! I’m being a total ##@Q%# and you guys can’t call me on it!!!”-in disguise.
Waaah, teacher, all the other kids are being mean! Tell them to stop!
Well, teacher can’t find his ass with both hands and a GPS, much less quell the rebellion, whatever that means, so just leave your apple on the desk and get on with it.
First, let me get one thing right out of the way, for the benefit of morons like the OP: i’m not going to the barricades over the word “cunt.” It’s clear that it is one word that is unequivocally unacceptable when used about another Doper, in the new rules. Fine. I don’t need it; i can live without it; although i do think it’s sort of funny that the instances of its use on these Boards have escalated beyond any previous level since the new rule took effect.
Anyay, at the moment, for me it’s a combination of:
a) the fact that the new rule #2 attempts to solve what i see as a non-existent problem
and
b) the complete lack of clarity about what the rule actually is.
Here’s Ed’s most recent “clarification”:
Talk about precision!
raindog you fucking troll. Assume I have called you every naughty word in the English language except cunt.
Raindog, stop being a lying sack of shit. It makes people lose respect for you.
Who knew it was possibly to simultaneously have your head up your ass and your nose in a different ass? Well, I guess you do learn something new every day.
Wait, are you implying anyone ever had respect for raindog?
I guess I’d have to say I am, too. Having read the rules, I didn’t notice what was different from before. I don’t inhabit the Pit very often, so that might have something to do with it, but I’m still a bit perplexed by both sides of the “issue.”
However, I did recently get a personal PM inviting me to a “Splinter Board”–which mostly surprised me because I didn’t think all that many people even know who I am around here!:o
Just be careful. From what I hear Guin can eat a dog’s ear through a picket fence.
Your OP has all but made a convert out of me. I still object to the stripping of privileges, any privileges. I can deal with that though. Keep up the good work.
This illustrates the point I was trying to make in the other thread. Demanding “civil” language doesn’t make the assholes go away. And sometimes, the appropriate response to a civil, indecent poster is an uncivil response.
/points
Splitter!
This is my point as well. . . without any of the words used above that are disallowed, of course.
You seem to think that the whole thing is about words. Having read many of your posts and the ruling below, I wouldn’t be as certain as you. YM(obviously)V.
And that’s what some of it is about. . . the ability to know within reason what’s allowed.
They came for the asshats and I did nothing, because I wasn’t an asshat. . .
(Okay, I’m part asshat on my father’s side.)
