I didn’t infer from Ed’s rulings that he’s looking for maturity as much as a basic minimum standard of conduct/ behavior.

I think everyone assumes that raucous behavior will often be immature. If you’re saying that immaturity takes many forms and therefore there can be no minimum standards of behavior, I’d say either you’re misguided or playing word games.

My view is a distinct minority on this issue, and it has made me a lightning rod—in part because I have been uncharacteristically vocal in this thread and the ATMB thread that started this. I accept that.

Actually, I wouldn’t want anyone banned. The “quell the rebellion” was me simply being tired of the over the top drama queen stuff.

Normally, I’d ignore threads like that, but it got so long, and so outrageous, that I felt the need to offer up an alternate view.

It’s seems a little ironic to me that people are alleging that I’m attacking the board or monopolizing the discourse.

The fact is, the board is often monolithic in it’s views on many, many things; politics, religion etc. New members (think: Jesse Leigh) are often mercilessly bullied and the vast, vast majority are hounded until they leave.

I posted 51 times in the ATMB thread, and that’s now less than 5% of all posts. But what didn’t get mentioned (and I don’t think realized) is that on this MB a minority has 2 options: Be driven out, or silenced, or; answer to a stunning amount of posters posting directly at them.

Look at the Jesse Leigh threads. A new member that can’t keep his/her wits is attacked relentlessly. It is common for that type poster to be the center of attention; none of it pleasant. I’ve seen countless turn and run from this place.

To offer a more complete perspective on the ATMB, count the number of posts in favor of Ed’s new rules, and then count the number against. There were only a small handful willing to dissent, and they were outnumbered. Of those against Ed’s rules, quite a few were willing to present their views again and again. Me and only a couple others stood in favor of the rules, and in most exchanges I represented the counter point. That attracted the usual attention that minority views get around here.

I am nor badchad; a miscreant and troll. OTOH, I am not Jesse Leigh either. I’m a Charter member and until I’m asked to leave I have a right to present my views.

It’s ironic that there is the implication that *I’m *somehow picking on the vast multitude of people who so passionately filled that thread again and again with their views.

If it was good enough for Jesse Leigh, it is good enough for them.
