Ed Schultz is an asshole

Not only is he an asshole, he’s a bigoted asshole. Not only is he a bigoted asshole, he’s an ignorant, offensive, loudmouth, cretinous bigoted asshole. Not only is he a … oh fuck it, you get the picture.

Here’s what he tweeted

Not ‘Let’s not forget gays were persecuted too’, true and worth reminding people of. No, this libtard blowhard has to go further. He doesn’t want Jews, Gypsies, trade unionists, etc sharing the spotlight with his chosen minority. Gays were the ones suffering the real persecution.

How does this idiot still have a job? Oh that’s right, nobody fucking watches MSNBC anyway, even liberals. They’re all watching Fox.

This tweet is so stupid I honestly wonder if the man was drunk or high.

I mean, it’s not even “I’m politically warped to the point of saying offensive things” stupid. It’s just literally stupid, sort of like saying “three times five is twenty-eight.”

Why are you oppressing gays? ( :stuck_out_tongue: )

Dammit, truth is so discriminatory!

I endorse this pitting. Despite the fact that Ed’s ostensibly on my side of the political spectrum, he’s nothing short of a crazy old man sitting on his porch and yelling at the dead leaves to get off his lawn.

Ed Schultz is … my dad?

You know, this is a perfect example of why Twitter is one of the most ridiculous things ever invented. I personally think Schultz is a pompus blowhard, but really? One tweet, the Internet equivalent of a fucking bumper sticker, and we’re supposed to go all Two Minutes Hate on the guy? Please.

  1. This is being reported by something called ‘The Tea Party News Network’
  2. The author provides no clue as to in what context Shultz was tweeting his frankly asinine opinion
  3. The author himself says:

OK, so we’ll take the author’s word for it, right? After all, he clearly has no partisan axe to grind:

I did find this line to be comedy gold, however:

Yeah, like people get their history lessons from tweets.

Sorry, I’ve only got half a quart of outrage today; I believe I’ll save it for something a bit more rewarding.

That’s a crazy thing to say, but I can’t find any record of the tweet. Was it from his official twitter account?

I watch neither, as I detest the ranting from both ends of the political spectrum. The only difference between them is that MSNBC has a few wack-a-doos, Fox has an entire clown car full of them. CNN jumped the shark long ago and the network news shows are more about who has the hottest weather girl nowadays. The only decent, measured reporting on TV is PBS.

Before the Recreational Outrage train finishes pulling out of the station, does somebody have a more credible source for this story?

I think I need to make a note of this for when I need a new sig line.

As my husband is fond of saying, he likes it when people show you who they are, so you don’t have to make any effort to find out.

Yes. Breitbart has a link to a screenshot. In context, it’s actually not that dumb. It’s just badly worded.

I can kinda maybe sorta see the point? (Is the point that gays were even more persecuted in the camps than other groups?) But even if that’s it, it’s not just a matter of wording–it’s not really much of a point, IMHO. Pretty dumb thing to tweet, even if worded better.

Well, I think the point is that it’s dumb and more than slightly offensive to say that gay people are acting like nazi stormtroopers when historically, actual nazi stormtroopers treated them worse than anyone else. I agree, badly worded.

Ed Schultz is a disgrace to liberalism in general, and I don’t associate with the Rush Limbaugh of the Left.

He and Chris Matthews can blow each other in a back alley somewhere and it will be a more productive use of their mouths.

That all being said, I’m not sure the context of his remarks warrants a pitting.

If you want to pit him for being an asshole in general, I’m totally there.

His tweet makes perfect sense in the context of being a reply to someone else making the obnoxious claims that gays are acting like Nazis:

Some asshole: Gay people are acting like Nazis!
Ed: Gay people were really the ones being persecuted in Hitler’s Germany.

Slightly awkwardly worded, but inside the context of talking about Nazis and gays, it’s saying that gays were on the receiving end of the persecution, clearly a correct point.

Take away the context and it sounds like he’s saying that gays were more persecuted than Jews, etc. So, trust Fox to take away the context.

That’s not Fox’ fault. If you want things to be taken in context, you shouldn’t tweet them.

There’s blame to go around. Tweeting things that look stupid out of context is stupid. Reporting on tweets that look stupid out of context without reporting the context is dishonest.

I’m sure the Tea Party News Network is terribly concerned about the appearance of dishonesty.

I don’t agree. Fox has a responsibility to present the correct context.

There’s a classic apocryphal story about a vengeful ship’s first mate, who wrote in the ship’s log one morning, “Captain sober today.”

The captain was sober that day, as he was every day - he didn’t drink.

The fictional first mate can’t simply say he was reporting an accurate fact and thereby avoid condemnation for his deception.

Al Jazeera America (or English) is really pretty good, if you get it. (Channel 347 on DirecTV)
