What I mean is, why did you start posting more a few months ago, and why did you start acting officially through board posts more often than you used to?
The moderating on this board seems to run smoother when its done by the moderators themselves. Perhaps he simply needs to trust his team a little more?
He mentioned elsewhere that Tubadiva is “taking a little break from posting” so possibly Ed is stepping in to replace her temporarily?
Creative Loafing filed for bankruptcy. I’m sure all department heads are taking a bit more hands on approach to their organizations. I know I would.
Why is he here? Let me take a wild stab at this. Um, because it’s his board? (Well, Cecil’s, but he is after all Cecil’s Vicar on Earth, so to speak.)
Actually he did explain a while back that he would be taking a greater hand in moderation. I have no problem with that. (That will come as a great relief to Ed, I’m sure.)
“Why is he here” was certainly the title of my OP, but it was not really exactly the question I was asking in that OP. See OP for reference.
“Because it’s his board” doesn’t respond to the question I actually asked, as you’ll see once you go back and look up that reference I just mentioned.

Don’t forget that Ed has been trying mightily to create some sort of advertising platform out of the Dope. He started with his Barn Door forum and now is trying to push that targeted forum for Chicagoans.
Both are failing with thuds that must be resounding in Creative Loafing hq (they have less than 300 posts combined for the entire month of January at a quick glance).
Ed must have large beads of flop sweat on his forehead, especially since those new forums have obviously taken resources away from the SDMB that have caused such loud complaints. It’s a surprisingly common bad business strategy: expanding a firm into new, presumably more profitable, areas without ensuring that the core business is running so perfectly that it can be comparatively neglected for a while. Now Ed has fires to put out here on top of his other problems. I can’t comment on his behavior in ATMB but as a businessperson I’m not impressed.
The Dope has far greater marketability than either of his new ventures, ISTM, and I’m baffled by the continued lack of effort behind that, even though people have pointed this out for years. I’m missing some major piece of the puzzle. Can it be just that Ed is as awesomely incompetent as he appears? I’d say no, but the head of CL is apparently as massively and equally incompetent, so it must be possible. It’s just our bad luck to have the two piled on top of each other.
I’ve seen bad marketing destroy other successful operations, so this eats at me. There’s no earthly reason for failing to promote oneself, especially when one has an existing popular internet platform from which to do so. Decide whether the SDMB is a personal playground or a business operation, but stop trying to mix the two. It doesn’t work.
