Uninformed? Maybe some, yeah, but I’ve seen your name attached to more than two or three Pit threads about the boards in the past. I’m not attacking you in any way here…I’m just wondering why you continue to post if you seem to dislike the board so much. You even let your membership expire. I assume that’s because you had it with the boards.
But if one thing could be predicted in my own mind, back in the day, it’s that Garfield### (at the time, I didn’t know the numbers so that’s how I had thought of you, but now I know it’s 226; hey, thanks! ) would be found in most any thread that was about complaining about the administration of these boards or how they work/are run/act/etc.
It’s like I’d click on a thread and think “I bet you Garfield is in this thread…” (yes, I think to myself like that, heh).
So, I dunno, just seeing you in this topic was no surprise. As soon as I saw you had returned (yes, I’m stalking youuuu OOooooOOOo), I figured “well, it’s only a matter of time before he shows up in thread complaining about the board.”
And it’s not like you (and others) don’t have good reason…this isn’t about the Ed Zotti stuff–it’s free and clear of that and completely unrelated. It has to do with the fact that you, Garfield (specifically and personally) always seem to be one of the hugest complainers about the boards in general, so it’s just really confusing to me why you persist on staying and posting (as it is anyone who just seems to continually complain about the boards–I know of about four or five other “regular” complainers who seem to do nothing much but just complain). I could understand having paid for it before and being a paying member but that excuse doesn’t hold any more water.
It’s like this topic. I clicked on it and just knew I’d find you in it and seeing your post, it’s like, uh, why not just make your own blog so you can continually make entries in it about how much the SDMB sucks?
Seriously, why do you stay? I’m sincerely curious.
Had a long post typed out and the board ate it. But I won’t complain, I guess.
At the moment, I’m bored. Overall, it’s because I used to like this place and I like helping out when I can, whether with factual answers (the GQ links) or perspectives on things I happen to know about.
Since free posting, I’ve lurked a lot more than I used to (meaning I’ve been here a little less, but posted a lot less (in my perception)), and considered just not coming back at all (it would be no big loss for either side of the equation, and I say that not at all sarcastically). But like I say, I see a question in GQ I know about and, why NOT answer it? That’s the whole point of the place.
As for the whole complaining thing – well, it’s pretty simple: I think the administration sucks, to the tune of not seeing the boards growing to their full potential. In some situations, I’m sure I’ve been wrong, and in some I still feel I was right. But when I’ve complained, even when it was futile, it’s been because I’ve thought the boards were worse off for whatever it was I was complaining against.
I recognize on any issue like that you’re going to have people on either side, and I recognize that on some of those issues there were far more folks on the side that it was a dumb thing to complain about. But that’s basically why.
Garfield, your post here has garnered (from me) new respect for you (although I hardly expect you (or anyone here) to care whether or not I (or anyone here) respects them or not). Thank you for answering honestly, though, and for reanswering when the board ate your first reply.
I’m sorry I called you out in this topic that was about another matter entirely and I apologize to NineToTheSky also for the minor hijack in his topic. I just didn’t want to start a whole other pit about you and, really, it was a small thing anyway. I should have actually PMed you about it and I’m sorry I didn’t.
I guess it was just a build up of constantly seeing people (not just you) seemingly complain about these boards (although not at this current drama–I’m talking about those who seemingly do it constantly) and since you were right here, it was too tempting not to finally ask you about it.
