My son and I recently saw Dr.Doolittle with Eddie Murphy and liked it.
He was good.
What are all the Eddie Murphy movies and which are the good ones?
We just got Pluto Nash and I’m thinkin its not one fo the good ones…
48HRS & Beverly Hills Cop were good. Their sequels sucked.
The best are Beverly Hills Cop (and Part 2 isn’t bad), Trading Places, and Coming To America.
“Haunted Mansion” isn’t one of the good ones. It’s better than “Pluto Nash,” though.
Some people liked “The Nutty Professor.” Hardly anyone liked the sequel, though.
Though not suitable for children, “Raw” (a Murphy concert film of live stand-up he did) remains to this day the only movie which made me laugh so hard that I physically hurt afterwards. This was 15 years ago or so, though; I don’t know if it’s stood the test of time or not.
His other stand-up comedy concert film, Delerious, is even funnier than Raw, if you ask me. It slays me every time. But no, neither one is appropriate for kids.
nineiron Raw is about as classic as Richard Pryor: live onteh sunset strip. It just doesn’t get anybetter then that.
Really?
I heard it was quite homophobic.
2 not mentioned.
I thought “Bowfinger” was pretty durn funny and silly.
I also watch “Trading Spaces” when I see it on Comedy Central. Filled with 80s goodness.
**Pluto Nash **is one of those “worst movies ever made” types.
Beverly Hills Cop sequels had the distinct odor, taste, smell, and plot timings of the first. Coincidence? I think not.
Haunted Mansion got slammed by the critics.
I loathed Nutty Profesor to no end.
Seriously though, Eddie Murphy really only plays Eddie Murphy. The shtick gets old after awhile.
**Bowfinger
Shrek**
Depends on which version of Eddie you’re looking for and how old your son is.
His family type movies that are pretty good are Dr. Doolittle, Nutty Professor, Daddy Day Care and Shrek.
A couple good films that are not really kid movies but not really bad for kids to watch are Bowfinger and Trading Places (brief nudity in this one).
Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours and his stand up are more on the adult side of things.
Dude! How can you people forget Coming to America?! Still not completely for kids, but not quite as ronchy as some of his other stuff.
Take note: the majority of Eddie’s best movies are his earliest movies, which are NOT for children. If you’re looking for good fun films that you and your kids can enjoy, I would highly recommend Schrek and The Golden Child. Both have a lot of adult humor that small kids won’t get, and older kids will pretend they don’t get, but they both work well in a family type set up.
Trading Places is about it.
I think “The Distinguished Gentleman” is a very good and very underrated film. Murphy plays a street hustling con artist who gets elected to Congress because he has the same name as the incumbent Congressman, who happened to die right before the election. It’s an excellent satire of the American political system of politics and graft.
Raw was good, but I thought his earlier concert video Delirious was slightly better.
While it’s not a movie, “SNL: The Best of Eddie Murphy” has some funny skits he was in, most notably “Alfalfa sings the classics.”
“Buckwheat,” not Alfalfa.
