Norbit

Has anyone seen the commericals for the new Eddie Murphy Film Norbit. I think they are so funny. I think this movie will be a good one to see.

Really? To me it looks like yet another catastrophic Eddy Murphy vanity project in which he gets to dress up in a fat suit.

Are you 12 years old?

Yup yup, anyone seen Big Mamma, Medea, Nutty Professor, etc. etc., I mean come on.

If so much of Hollywood didn’t already hate him, I’d say the numerous ads airing over the next few weeks would be enough to doom Murphy’s Oscar chances (I’m guessing he’ll lose).

I mourn for the days of Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and The Distinguished Gentleman.

There was a time when Eddie could do no wrong. :frowning:

What, do you think all black comic actors in fat suits look alike?

What I do find amazing is how much skin the female fat suit Eddie shows. It’s not like Sherman Klump who wears a full suit of clothes most of the time. The makeup people must have done a great job.

But I don’t think I’ll be seeing the movie.

Did anyone else notice from the trailers this character, the male, is an awful lot like his Bowfinger character, which is actually not a bad film, in my defense.

I’ll have to take your word on that. To me, Eddie Murphy is a comedian who was only funny a long, long time ago, when I was a wee little tyke (I’m 24 now). He should’ve retired from doing movies at least a generation ago.

Then you need to see, at the very least, Beverly Hills Cop and Trading Places.

Except movies like Dreamgirls, where he really is the best thing in it, and that’s not a putdown of the rest of the movie. He was fantastic. But yeah, I also think he’ll lose the Oscar (which was his to lose, he was so good) just because of those goddamned moronic Norbit ads.
I liked Bowfinger too.

When we saw that trailer in the theater, my friend and I turned to each other and, umprompted, said “that looks like the worst fucking movie of all time” in unison.

Worst. Movie. Ever.

The only redeeming quality of this movie is that it (along with “Deck the Halls” and few others) can now be added to my Movie poster montage.

Unmitigated repulsive, disgusting rubbish!! When the trailer for it comes on, I have to leave the room until it’s over. Shades of Little Man.

You saw it already?

Anyway, fuck it. Eddie Murphy doing different characters is his strong suit, and between Shallow Hal, both Big Mommas, and both Nutty Professors, I’ve had a lot of damn genuine laughs at guy’s in fat suits.

I thought the Medea movies were pretty weak, but I like Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence. Still make me laugh.

Whoa, there. Such comments are out of bounds in Cafe Society.

Commenting on someone’s background is inappropriate, and certainly the implication that the person is too young to be a member of the SDMB is a personal insult. You will hereby cease and desist, friedo, you’ve been around long enough to know better.

Apparently iluvurmom didn’t get the memo that all black comedies get the “dumbest movie ever” tag around here, until proven otherwise.

You don’t need to see “White Chicks” or “Little Man” or “Big Momma’s House” or “Soul Plane”. They’re the worst movie ever, period, every time, for 12 year olds.

But, we can’t wait to see “Talladega Nights” and “Evan Almighty”. Yeah and, “Nacho Libre” is looking pretty good.

Just for the record, “White Chicks” was and awful movie. Even for a 12 year old. “Big Momma’s House” wasn’t so bad; it was fine for a flipping through the channels, have a laugh, kind of movie. I haven’t seen any of the others (or even heard of “Evan Almighty” - did you mean “Bruce Almighty”?).

Oh, it’s in the record?

Sorry, I didn’t realize it was in the record that White Chicks was awful.

Is it in the record yet that Norbit is awful? I’d love to save myself the time if it’s in the record that it’s awful.
