Is there an “egg bank” counterpart to a sperm bank? Who can become an egg donor and does one get paid?
I’ve never heard of an “egg bank” before. I don’t know how many donnors there would be if there was one. Taking eggs out requires more than rubbing yourself off. They have to go in surgically to remove those suckers.
There are companies that harvest eggs from donors to use for research and fertilizing sterile women who want to have children. Example: Egg Donation, Inc.
I believe people can get paid for eggs. Usually the money is quite good since it takes a lot more to harvest eggs as opposed to sperm. In college there were tons of adds for this sort of thing. If I was a women I could have paid for college easily.
I remember similar flyers posted around campus in Austin. I believe the going rate was around $1 to $2k per egg–not bad money, really.
