Eggs

Does anybody know of any type of egg that has low cholesterol. I am on a low cholesterol diet and I love eggs. What about turkey or duck eggs, are they lower in cholesterol than chicken eggs?

Have you considered egg substitute products? I think you can find them near the eggs in most grocery stores.

According to Blair and Marrion 1978 Yolk cholesterol in eggs from various avian species.Poultry Science 57(5):1260-5:

“Species listed in increasing concentrations of cholesterol per gram of yolk, were guinea fowl, chicken, pheasant, quail, turkey, duck, goose, and dove with an overall range of 12.77 to 21.99 mg of cholesterol per gram of yolk.”

I’d stick with the chicken eggs.

I buy Eggland’s Best (for their antibiotic/hormone-free content), but according to their label (see link), the cholesterol levels of their eggs are also somewhat lower than your average chicken egg. (But they’re still not as tasty as the eggs from our arboviral surveillance chickens  )

Mmmmm…arboviral surveillance chickens!

I’ll second Eggland. No added crap means better for you, even if there wasn’t a cholesterol advantage.
