Elections are Fun but Governing is Boring -or- Handicapping 2016

It’s never too early, so we have been doing in in dribs and drabs all over, but let’s organize it in one place. I’ll start with some poorly-defended positions.

  1. Hillary will be 69 in 2016. While 70 is the new 30, especially for women, will she be seen as too old?

  2. Biden will be 73. Definitely too old, so he’s out, but I love old-school politicians.

  3. Jeb Bush is younger, but he’s still a Bush. In recent years his brother’s name has been expunged from all Republican records, like the names of Hatshepsut and Akhenaten were chiseled from temple walls after their reigns, and the people don’t really want to be reminded. I’m flexible about this conclusion, though.

  4. Christie was sounding so old school last week I almost forgot I disliked him and his policies. If he keeps going for the “populist who works for the people” angle and doesn’t hang out with too many crazies he has a shot at the nomination.

  5. Rahm can be fun, but he hasn’t been since becoming mayor of Chicago. A classic case of “governing is boring” and potentially fatal since he’s not nearly as charming as boring ol’ Obama.

Too soon? Or too stupid?
