Obama got a high number of electoral votes. Who has (in recent times) gotten the most electoral votes?
Who got the least and still won?
Reagan got 525 in 1984.
See here for all the gory details.
I remember watching the election coverage in 1984. The only suspense was “Will Reagan be the first president since Washington to win all 50 states?” He missed only one – Minnesota.

I’m pretty sure that Washington didn’t win 50 states.
Yeah, but like Reagan he didn’t win DC either.
The table should really include a note on the Rutherford B Hayes election of 1876, as well as the 2000 election. The Hayes - Tilden election was a bigger mess than 2000, and the outcome far more questionable. Hayes had to get every electoral vote from 4 disputed states to win. A commission appointed to settle the issue awarded all of them to Hayes, their votes breaking strictly along party lines.
Of course, I misspoke – “all the states”

IIRC, Monroe won every state in 1820, but one elector decided to vote for his opponent on the grounds that George Washington should continue to be the only president elected unanimously.
Myth. The guy just hated Monroe.
