Fox’s ratings were what I meant by “numerical majority”. Not everyone in the country is a news consumer. Of those that are, Fox is getting a huge majority.
I think this is what Evil One is referring to.
If you figure that your basic conservative is going to be loyal to the news that makes them feel good inside, the liberals do likewise, and the moderates/independents turn off their televisions and quitely mourn the death of actual journalism vs. rampant editorializing(okay, that’s what I do), then Fox would have the majority of the audience.
I wasn’t going to get into the survey but that’s the gist of my point, yes. I happen to think that Obama benefited from first-time voters and people who bought the moderate facade. Now that the mask is off, many people are having second thoughts as evidenced by polling, approval ratings, etc. We’ll have to see what happens at the polls in 2010 and 2012.

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, what Obama has done and is trying to do cannot be classified as moderate. The degree of government intervention and spending is classic leftward thinking.

And on the other side, now that the election is over the republicans seem to be purging the RINOs and aiming to simply entertain/maintain the base of loyal dregs. It’s not a bad idea as moderates play less of a role in low turnout midterm elections, but the question is how many of those self identified conservatives are true die hards or those identifying as such due to the constructed negative connotations of the word liberal. Of course, this is betting on games during the preseason. It all comes down to who runs the second worst campaign, not whose politics represent the public best.
But that’s not how any of these threads around here ever, ever work, now is it. Good job trying to play humble and say “oh gosh, this is probably what I should have done, woe is me.” Fuck off. Each and every time one of these “Look what the Libruls did” threads come around, it’s an attempt at a preemptive gotcha, foam flying everywhere and the increasingly inevitable “YOU ALL WOULD BE SO PISSED IF BUSH HAD DONE THIS!!!”

Whatever the minute speck of an issue is, like some stupid teacher having her kids sing a song about Obama, may at its face be “not that big of a fucking deal.” So most of us agree that yeah, it’s a stupid thing to do. But we’re not writing letters to the superintendent over an issue from 8 months ago because it’s “not that big of a fucking deal.” But you seem to think that you’re going to point out major inconsistencies when nobody but your own kind gets as frothy as you do about it. And this is of course the point of this exercise. That’s why we have pit threads which essentially start off saying “Why is there not a pit thread about this from the democrats, huh? If you’re so outraged at this stuff why aren’t you pitting it from the other side, huh? Prove that you’re not hypocrites!!”
Then you can pat eachother on the back and say “Give it up man, they’re so far gone they don’t even realize the depths of their own naivete.”
Any attempts to discuss the issue rationally in terms of said incident being “not that big of a fucking deal” or at the very least “one stupid idiot that has already been dealt with months ago for the issue” is blown off as more partisan blindness.
So we have to go through this about every week or so. Somebody drudges up a 2 paragraph article from January of 2009 and presents it like it happened yesterday, so we can keep the cycle of continued outrage going, keep fanning the flames and talking about how the “honeymoon is over” and “people are starting to realize…(insert talking point of the day)” and “the numbers clearly show…well, they clearly show if you tilt them sideways and hold under an ultraviolet light while singing psalms backwards that nobody really likes Obama anymore anyway.”
