I’m pretty sure she’s real, if for no other reason then having it revealed to be a hallucination would be kind of a crummy way to start the next episode. Then whatever secret was actually in the house would be anti-climactic. Plus the already did kind of a fake-out, showing her with red paint on her at first so she looked like a corpse before the camera pulled out. A double fake-out would be borderline campy.
Agree the Moriarty arc has been pretty interesting. I like keeping him in the shadows, manipulating stuff, rather then having him show himself early on.
Irene is definitely real. You don’t get Margery Tyrell on your show just for a dream sequence.
Irene and Holmes are typically portrayed as a bit adversarial. We’re going to find out Irene was working with Moriarty the whole time. She really did grow to care for Sherlock, but her boss compelled her to fake her death for one reason or another.
The possibility exists that “Irene” is somebody that Moriarty found and trained to be a dead ringer for the real Ms. Adler. Sounds like the kind of mindfuck that Moriarty would enjoy pulling off.
Surprise! Your long lost One Great Love isn’t so long lost after all. After they get close again, Sherlock discovers something that doesn’t add up which gives the game away(possibly teamed with Moriarty “removing her piece from the board”) Cue Shirley’s emotional collapse.
Lady Stark hires Holmes to find Bran but in a bizarre twist, Holmes discovers that Lord Stark is still alive, having faked his own death to be with his first love, Mance Rayder. This the REAL reason that Rayder is invading.
Meanwhile, Watson is sent to investigate Irene’s recent past - for obvious reasons. This puts her on a twisted road that leads her to Daenerys Targaryen and the Unsullied.
It turns out that while in Qarth, Daenerys acquired a crystal which gave her remote sight. Unfortunately the visions it produced were sporadic and uncontrollable. However she had learned that Irene/Margaery is actually a demon created by the Red Woman and hired by Moriarty.
The plan was for the demon to possess Holmes and force him to use his abilities in Moriarty’s service. The episode ends with a dramatic car and dragon chase through the streets of lower Manhattan as Watson attempts to rescue Holmes.
I work in Burbank, CA. And it’s a one parter here, two parter in France. Of course the tapes were late. I should’ve seen this Tuesday morning!
It must’ve felt like a huge slap in the face when…
Sherlock realized he’d been FUCKING MORIARTY! Ah, falling in love with your nemesis.
I laughed when Gregson said, “We can say that Irene Adler is an alias now, I suppose.”
And they had me going when they showed how they met in London. A fun and introverted couple. Awwww… I’m like, wait, this bitch orchestrates murders and assassinations!!!"
I know you work with the shows - I was funnin’ with you a bit -
The part you spoilered - not a slap in the face but absolutely one of the better twists as of late and nicely played - that and the end of the episode did not play to the standard cliches.
I know. (A slip of the thumbs, if you will. :D) Vegas, 90210 (thank Og), and Emily Owens MD were cancelled, but Elementary is coming back for sure.
More good parts were:
Sherlock noting the stolen originals in Irene/Moriarty’s flat. “You’re not gonna turn me in?” “No, I agree with you keeping modernity at bay.” (paraphrase)
Watson with: “Let’s catch this bitch.”
But said bitch will not be in jail for long. Even so, WHICH jail? NY? Macedonia? Greece? They all want her. She’ll be transferred around and escape.
Sometimes it’s the tiniest things that bother you. In my case, it’s the idea that Sherlock Holmes thinks that simply creating a living cross between two species means you’ve created a new species…
Yeah, like we now have the Liger species, and the Tigon species, not to mention the fabulous Mule species. Sheesh.
She’ll be back. He needn’t worry about finding a new nemesis, obviously with a network with people everywhere, and with billions of dollars at her disposal, and with her superintelligence, and with the fact that they don’t actually seem to be able to prove that she’s committed any particular crime, she’ll be out in no time.
