Elizabeth Warren is running for the Senate

But he plays one on TV!

And across two pages of Cosmopolitan.

But… but.. pickup truck.

Why is he not reasonable? Unless your definition of “reasonable Republican” encompasses only Arlen Specter.

Warren in 2016!

(Since it’s already been proven a freshman senator can take the WH.)

Some updating time:

Little comment is needed of course on the Cherokee affair with regards to Elizabeth Warren-apparently having certain “racial characteristics” with little documentary evidence qualifies you to be an Amerindian.

In addition, it appears Ms. Warren has a challenge from the left (apparently to some she is not leftist enough): http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/27/us/politics/democrat-challenges-elizabeth-warren-in-massachusetts.html. Perhaps Marisa DeFranco can pull a Sharron Angle or a Christine O’Donnell… Keeps fingers crossed

IIRC Elizabeth Warren claimed as much Cherokee ancestry as the current chief of the Cherokee nation. I suppose they could create another birther incident out of it but wtf did she get out of being 1/16 cherokee?

If she doesn’t get into the Senate, Plan B is to open a casino?

Lots of people have some small fraction of Native American ancestry. How is this relevant?

It’s only relevant that she claimed it with the only evidence being her grandmother’s “high cheekbones”, and family lore. There is no documentation. She was touted as one the universities “women of color”.

But it’s only going to be a distraction if she lets it be. She should just chalk it up as a mistake, and move on. Few, if any, of her potential voters area going to care even if many, if not most, of Brown’s potential voters care.

Why would Brown’s potential voters care?

Because she’s a Democrat. By “care”, I meant would make a big deal about it, even though they wouldn’t vote for her anyway.

“Make a big deal” about her having Indian blood, or about her purportedly claiming it on dubious grounds for no apparent reason?

The latter, except the apparent reason would be to gain some advantage by claiming minority status when said status is bogus.

Unleash Elizabeth Warren! Many pork scalps will hang in her wiki up!

It’s worth noting that she is from Oklahoma, where tons of people have Indian ancestry and where, up until the Indian casinos started pulling in money, no one really worried about documentation.

It’s really sad that the SDMB has become such a leftist echo chamber that people here honestly don’t have a clue about such a major scandal.

Warren lied about being a Native American to get into Harvard. This is huge, and people in MA are outraged about it. It’s all talk radio has been talking about. Not just conservative talk, either. Eagan and Braude, who are liberals, talk about this scandal every morning.

In the early 1990s Harvard was in trouble regarding affirmative action. A black professor had quit in protest over not enough minority faculty. They needed more minority professors. Warren was listing herself in a directory that schools used to find minority hires beginning in 1986. Once they hired Warren in 1992, Harvard began reporting her as a minority to the feds every year. Warren only stopped listing herself in the minority directory once she landed the tenured job at Harvard in 1995.

Warren has changed her story multiple times already, and won’t talk about this to the press. She’s probably finished. It’s MA, so anything is possible, but she shouldn’t survive this scandal if there is any sense of justice in the minds of the voters.

If she started listing herself as part Native American in 1986, but was not hired by Harvard until 1992, how can you say “she lied to get into Harvard”?

She believed based on family tradition to be part Native American. No doubt she hoped that claiming that ancestry would help her get hired on somewhere, but she honestly believed it to be true. I remember when I was applying for college scholarships my parents and I discussed the same thing because of a more tenuous claim to Indian ancestry (I ended up not trying to claim it).

At worst, it was an error in judgement. But to claim “she’s probably finished” is wishful thinking.

Warren speak with forked tongue.

And now for actual cites on how this is effecting the race.
