Ellen Degeneres gets called out for hypocrisy - or does she?

It’s a good point that no male has in recent history gotten away with staring at boobs. Especially celebrity males.

That’s a typically arrogant American remark. Allow me to fight your ignorance: there’s a whole world outside America and white people are a minority world-wide.

Allow me to fight your ignorance: white people hold a disproportionate amount of power, especially economic power, worldwide. The fact that white people are numerically a minority is irrelevant. In any case, the incident occurred in the US.

Fight my ignorance: what the hell does any of this have to do with the issue at hand?

As I said, equality cuts all ways. It’s not okay to discriminate against white people. It’s not okay to discriminate against straight people. It’s not okay to discriminate against men.

Is that still true?

I’m pretty sure “bringing out the big balloons” on a birthday are lyrics from a Katy Perry song.

Won’t somebody think of the straight, white, men?! :frowning:

Exactly:

“So let me get you in your birthday suit
It’s time to bring out the big balloons
So let me get you in your birthday suit
It’s time to bring out the big balloons”

It’s a joke, between friends, in which Ellen quotes Katy’s own song lyrics to her on her birthday.

In your mind, is equating an obvious joke with sexual leering part of the “equality” you are babbling about?

Like let’s take two situations. A woman does a comedy routine on Saturday Night Live in which she stares at someone else’s breasts and makes rude comments. The other situation is that a white male construction worker makes rude comments to a woman walking down the street in reference to her breasts. You think the performer and the construction worker should be subject to the same discipline, in the name of equality?

Is this some sort of joke?

I acitvely avoid Katy Perry’s music, but a quick Google confirms that her song “Birthday” contains the lines “So let me get you in your birthday suit / It’s time to bring out the big balloons.” It seems pretty clear that “big balloons” is intended to be a double entendre referring to her breasts.

Now, one song doesn’t mean that Perry should have to put up with people talking about her “big balloons” in all contexts for the rest of her life, and if she was offended then I hope she says so (publicly or privately, whatever she prefers) and that DeGeneres apologizes. But if Perry did not mind, I don’t think this rises to the level of something that the rest of the world needs to worry about.

That’s super interesting, but has nothing to do with humor in the US (or in the UK). I’m sure it’s not cool for Mandarin Chinese people to make jokes about the Hmong, but it’s probably OK the other way, if I’m getting my ethnicities right. Since you have problems generalizing, it’s probably OK for English people of Pakistani descent to make jokes about white English people, but probably not cool the other way. And, I never said it was OK to discriminate against white people. I have no idea where you got that idea (from your second reply).

I totally agree that if the target is offended, apologizing is right thing to do.

So, given this, should Urbanredneck apologize and ask for the thread to be closed? And, should he further improve his news sources? And, maybe not look for reasons to be offended? Just askin’.
Here’s an example of an exception to my very general rules up there. Harvey Weinstein can probably get away with Jewish jokes (assuming he’s Jewish), but I don’t think that he, Bill Cosby, and Bill O’Reilly should start up a Sexual Harasser Comedy Tour, even though Bill and Bill are “his people.”

Just want to say, no, this is not alright. It doesn’t matter what orientation or gender you are, you don’t touch people that don’t want to be touched. If they are handling her boobs, then they are likely not gay, and are using that as cover. That’s actual sexual harassment, gay or not. She shouldn’t bitch, she should go to HR.

Now, in a different situation, where say, she is your wife, and she wants you to handle her boobs, that’s not harassment, she shouldn’t bitch or report you. That would be more similar to the pic linked in the OP.

Or is it your opinion that groping and leering at women is always wrong, no matter what, even if they want you to do so?

I don’t know, sounds like a good warm-up act for an r. spencer speech.

Warm-up:

If you find yourself paying $32 million in legal fees and settlements, you may be a sexual predator.

If you find you’re being stripped of your membership in the MPAA, you may be a sexual predator.

If you like slipping roofies into your date’s drink, you may be a sexual predator.

Main show:

If you like lighting crosses on fire, you might be a white supremacist.

If you just don’t feel comfortable without your white hood, you might be a white supremacist.

If hate speech is your favorite kind of speech and people with non-pink skin scare the crap out of you, you might be a white supremacist.

If your right arm reflexively shoots forward and you like goose-stepping, you might be a Nazi.

I feel bad for whoever the guy is that had the trademark on “Where’s The Outrage?” He was doing well until Twitter came along.

The same is even more true of Jews. They are wealthier on average than white people overall, more educated, and over-represented in government, media, and academia in proportion to them being about 2 percent of US population. (They have about 3 times their US population percentage in Congress, and 100 times their world population percentage in Nobel Prize winners, for a couple of examples. And it’s obvious that way, way more than 2 percent of people in the media, think tanks, cabinet positions etc are Jewish.) Is it okay to “punch up” at Jews with anti-Semitic jokes?

I get tired of leftists excusing anti-white racism on the basis of wealth and “power” without realizing that their rationale for it apply more strongly to Asians and to Jews than to whites in general.

Anyway, as for Ellen, I don’t care about her talking about Katy Perry’s chest, it’s the hypocrisy that a man would get crucified for “sexual objectification” or harrassment for doing the same thing. Feminism is demonizing any open expression of straight male sexuality while excusing the same behavior from women and gays. Female TV hosts can openly lust after male celebrities, ogle them, flirt, or even touch them while men get protests if they do any of the same, from people who call themselves feminists and say feminism is about “equality”.

Ellen does all sorts of stuff that would get a man crucified. Some harmless-having male models in their underwear on daytime network TV which is the sort of thing that got called misogynistic when the Man Show had Girls Jumping on Trampolines on late-night cable. But sometimes she does reprehensible things, like this Campbell’s soup ad where she had fat guys in swim trunks represent “bad ingredients” to be replaced by male models representing the “good ingredients” of Campbell’s. (Which is ironic because Campbell’s is actually cheap and Progresso is the premium brand that has better ingredients anyway.)

Feminists call that “body-shaming”. It would be a career-ender if a male talk show host had fat women appear in swimsuits on TV so he could ridicule their bodies.

Uh, most Jews are white people. So, I’m not sure what your point is. Even while being white, they were discriminated against throughout history (clubs that were restricted, forced to live in certain areas) and there was that recent unpleasantness that you may recall, when more than 1/3 were murdered. So, I feel like they’ve earned the right to gripe. Plus, all I said was that they can poke fun at Jews.

And, if you think Asians and even Jews hold more power than non-Jewish whites in this country, you’re really deluded. Remember all those Jewish presidents? Me neither. Just because they may hold out-of-proportion numbers of seats doesn’t mean they hold the most power.

What a strange rant. Why are you so angry?

It doesn’t matter that Jews are white. You can compare the average of a group to the average of a group within that group. You can compare the wealth of black Americans to that of all Americans, and so forth.

No, there haven’t been any Jewish presidents yet. But as I explained, they’re wildly over-represented everywhere else. I don’t have a problem with that, but leftists would if they were consistent about their principles. The point is that they’re wealthier than whites on average, more educated, and have more political power in the US on a per capita basis than any other group. According to the leftist principles about power, privilege and “punching up”, they should be the ones apologizing the most for their “Jewish privilege” of being born to wealthy, educated, low-crime families, if all whites are supposed to apologize for “white privilege”. Same goes for Asians in terms of wealth and education, probably not political power so much though.

But they won’t say that, because it would show how ugly and racist current leftist thought is if it was applied consistently.

Yes, it is OK to make fun of white people, straight people, and men. I’m not sure how you got from “making fun of” to “discriminating against.” But not allowing men to objectify women, while allowing women to parody men doing that, is not discrimination, and having different rules for the people with the power to make sure they don’t abuse it is not discrimination either. That’s why I can call myself a Yid, and you can’t. It’s also why a Jew can be president of Harvard, but a gentile shouldn’t be president of Yeshiva University.

Also, since straight, white men are the majority in the US, and this happened in the US, the discussion is taking place on a board under the auspices of the US, it’s pretty much irrelevant that white people may be a world-wide minority.

I’m not sure which Pit thread you meant to post this in, but it’s pretty out there for GD. Anyway, I’d join in this rant, but with all the strawmen, I’m afraid there might be a fire hazard.

Anyway, enjoy your resentment, I guess. I’m a white guy, part Jewish, and I don’t feel all that put upon. If you want to find reasons to be angry, don’t let me stand in your way. Bye!
