Elmopalooza...

My little girl goes nuts over elmo and I was tired of buying the video tapes that have the little kids songs on them. I couldnt handle another counting song so I picked up elmopalooza.

I know this is a few years old now, but I must admit that it is not too bad. There are some good songs on there. The Fugees do one that is pretty good and even Jimmy Buffet and Kermit do one that is decent. And it has great sound in 5.1 surround on my home system.

I recommend this to any one who has little kids but cant stand anymore of the "counting birds/dogs/bats/cars/blocks/people/socks songs on all the tapes.

Anyone else have this? Reviews?

IMHO, as far as kids’ videos go, it’s very hard to beat the Street. However, I think that Elmopalooza pales in comparison to SS’s earlier 25th Birthday, A Musical Celebration. It’s a much better compilation of original SS clips and features some neat early work by en Vougue, and a wonderful closing song by Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Mrs. Rastahomie and I have the CD. It’s pretty cool  . I’m especially fond of I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon, with Shaun Colvin and Ernie, One Small Voice, with Kenny Loggins, and Caribbean Amphibian, with Jimmy Buffet & Kermit.

Both “Elmopalooza” and “25th Birthday, A Musical Celebration” are quite good, even worth buying on DVD (rewinding tapes for kids can really get tiresome).

You will get quite sick of them, but it least it takes a lot longer. My kid watched both videos about 3 times a day (No, not the entire thing, about 10-20 minutes at a shot during mealtimes or before nap/bed) for several months. GAH!

My faves: Ernie’s Dancing myself to sleep (Bert’s outrage as the sheep tapdance around his bed while Ernie wails on the trumpet is wonderful), and of course the Jimmy Buffet+Kermit duet.

Honorable mention: on “Best of Kermit” (a so-so tape mostly), the Hop song. The longhaired cow backup singers are a stitch.

I don’t have any kids but I love Elmopalooza… a little girl I babysat watched her videos all the time when I was there. It was mainly Elmopalooza, Elmo in Grouchland and Barney Live in New York… I grew to despise Barney even more then I did before… but I still love Elmo -smiles-
