TIL that some time in the recent past, Elon Musk was a guest on The Late Show with Steven Colbert. From the small amount I’ve been able to find, I gather that some of Steven’s remarks/questions got under Elon’s skin, and he stormed off the show (or he was asked to leave; searches reveal varying headlines). BUT, every search I try, the most I can find is a video showing a still of the Late Show set with Musk and Colbert for over twenty minutes, while an AI-generated narrator tells the viewer about the encounter.
I don’t want to be told about the encounter; I want to watch it (ideally, without having to pay for [or create] an account with cbs dot com). Is this possible? The hits I’ve managed to find (but refuse to watch) won’t even tell me when this took place (which enrages me so much I considered putting this in the Pit. And it might belong there anyway, because Elon).
Anyway, TIA for any assistance in finding what I seek.
Colbert’s Late Show has aired since 2015. You can find the complete episode list, including guests, here and on linked pages.
I went through the entire collection of episodes looking for Musk. He was on Colbert’s second episode overall, on 9 September 2015. He was the second guest after Scarlett Johansson, which underlines how he wasn’t an A-lister at that time. Doubtful he’d allow himself to be relegated to the back half of the episode these days.
But anyway, there’s zero record of Musk having appeared on the show after that one.
Is it possible he came back and there was an incident and the episode never aired as a result? Sure, I guess, it’s possible. But in that case there would be no record of it.
But Occam’s Razor tells us this is almost certainly an internet fiction.
Edit with an addendum: Based on this, the current version of Musk wouldn’t have the balls to go on Colbert anyway.
Yeah, I watched that 2015 show. He DID suggest that nuking Mars would be an effective first step for terraforming. Apparently, he didn’t watch the series finale of Dinosaurs.
