I’ve personally known 3 whites that were born and raised in SA. Two, not during Apartheid - none related to each other. All three are pretty racist. I’m not broad-brushing but that’s my experience. I realize that there are issues there that are probably more difficult than I can grasp not having their background.
Hi I’m a white South African, and I can 99% guarantee that the racists you met, you met outside SA, and that their racism is the reason they left the country.
Meanwhile I know lots of white South Africans, including friends who are Musk’s age. And guess what? they’re not racist. Even the racist white south African’s I know, mostly in-laws, are not as racist as Musk demonstratably is. Musk is not racist because he spent les than half his life in South Africa, he is racist because he is a racist surrounded by, and supported by, other racists.
Excusing or explaining his racism by the fact that he was born in South Africa does a great disservice to the millions of South Africans who aren’t racist or those who have abandoned their racism. It is intellectually lazy and clearly a case of seeking to excuse the fact that Musk is a racist billionaire in the US because systemic issues supported and condoned it. Musk is a piece of shit that was allowed and encouraged to flower into a sewerage plant by, and in aide of, the culture he found himself in, in the US .
Starlink on it’s own is fine as far as I know. It’s when he can apparently kill it for people he doesn’t lik such as the Ukrainians, then it’s a problem.
Surely it’s been like that for as long as it’s been in existence.
