Hell, I know a same-sex couple who had one of the celebrants’ opposite-sexed ex stand up for one of the grooms, and I’m about the least cosmopolitan person you could ever hope to meet.
Given the sheer number of same-sex marriages that have been recognized, it stands to reason that a plurality of them involve people who have been previously married to someone of the opposite sex. After all, those sorts of marriages aren’t terribly uncommon.
Yeah, Elton wasn’t even close to being the first. After Canada started legalizing SSM former Kid in The Hall Scott Thompson had a TV show in which he planned weddings for same-sex couples (retitled for American TV “First Comes Love”). A number of the men on his show had previously been married to women.
As i understand it, England doesn’t have same-sex “marriage” anyway, they have “civil partnerships.”
That’s what I thought. Isn’t Elton raising a lot of stink over not being able to pass his estate down to his man-spouse without it being taxed to hell and back because it’s not “officially” a marraige in the eyes of the British court system?
