That makes sense. However, when I watched King Richard last week, I never once thought of the incident at the Oscars. I will confess that while I certainly knew what he had done that night, I didn’t follow it or the aftermath closely at all. For example, I don’t know if he and Chris Rock worked it out. I don’t know if Smith apologized. I haven’t seen an memes about the event. So, it’s ancient history to me when I’m watching a movie.
Whoa.
With threads like these, who needs an memes?
We all have our bubbles I guess.
I think Roman Polanski is a piece of shit but I still enjoyed The Ninth Gate. Of course, I didn’t have to look at him for 2 hours, either.
Sure, but I thought everyone . . .

If seeing an actor on screen takes you out of the moment, then it’s going to be tough to appreciate the performance. For many viewers (including me) that’s going to be true for Will Smith for the for foreseeable future. If this means his movies are poorly reviewed then it’s entirely on him for his actions. No one is punishing him in perpetuity, it’s a direct result of what he chose to do on a live TV performance.
Well, when I watch a movie, I don’t see the real life actor, I see the character. When I saw this movie, I saw an escaped slave who went through hell and high water to get back to his family. I didn’t even think about Will Smith the actor. I guess that’s the difference.
I used to love that movie, ‘Midnight in the garden of Good and Evil’. Then I learned about Kevin Spacy. I tried, but I can’t watch it now. Shrug…Oh well.
