Emergency MS Word Q! Resizing text boxes

So I am working on a document in MS Word (yes, that’s right, a word processor, not publishing software; it’s not my choice) …

There are numerous graphical elements with captions. However, the text boxes for the captions often do not line up properly with the edges of the photos. When I try to resize the text boxes, the lines seem to “snap” to preset positions, so the box is either to wide or too short.

Is there any way to shut off this “snap to” feature so that I can line up the edges of the text boxes exactly with the edges of the images?

Thanks!

Hold down ALT while you’re dragging the textbox.

Thank you thank you thank you

Sure thing.

If you want it disabled permanently, uncheck “Snap To Grid.” Depending on the version it’s usually under Draw | Arrange
