I don’t have a link to a video of this, but it was patently obvious that Eminem was NOT doing live vocals on the SNL aired Christmas night. On his song in the last half hour, I saw:
the mic pulled down during the last half of a word with no change in vocal quality
a clear mumble of a different word while the audio plunged ahead correctly
a horrible moment when two words came across when his lips weren’t even moving.
Why is E getting a pass when Ashley Simpson was villified for this?
He’s a rapper and we know he can rap but it is different for a singer because even on their CD’s they can have their voice enhanced. When people see a singer live they probably want to know if they can really sing.
If Eminem got caught and got as much flack as Ashlee, he would just make a hit single about it and a video that would play on MTV all day.
hah!
So true!
At lipsynch.us I saw a recent Lindsay Lohan video clip with an obvious sound-not-matching-lips gaffe.
I really don’t know anything about Simpson, but what sticks in my head is that after the SNL fiasco I read an interview (‘Lucky’ magazine) with her in which she criticizes lip synching and says “It’s just not me.”
I don’t think most people actually care if a singer is lip-synching on SNL or not. The Ashlee Simpson thing was a little different. It was such a huge and obvious error that people were bound to comment on it, but I don’t thinkt that’s what pissed people off. It was when she tried to blame the band that the shit hit the fan. A transparent lie told to affix blame to an innocent party? That’s pretty cheap. If she’d just owned up to it, it would have gotten some play during Leno and Letterman’s monologues, and then dropped right out of the public consciousness.
Also, I think Eminem gets more slack for being genuinely talented.
