Hey, I’m old. I’m gray-haired. I’m painfully unhip. I’ve never liked much rap (other than a Neneh Cherry and Latifah phase). The thought of me ever “being into” Eminem is hilarious. However, I did like 8 Mile as a movie, and I liked Eminem’s acting and music in the movie.
I LOVE “MOSH”!! It’s not just because it’s intense, powerful, political and important. I actually like it as a song too.
I hope the fact that an old, unhip person likes an Eminem song doesn’t mean that he’s on the way out. I’d hate to do that to him. (I already fear that The Daily Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann will be cancelled because I watch them. I swear I jinx things).
It’s available all over the net, which is good since I’m not sure if it’ll get airplay.
Here are a few places where the video can be found:
Nope, this was a video (I know him primarily from those Launch videos) where he talks about looking around and seeing the most beautiful thing where everyone is dressed like him and thinks like him. White America perhaps?
I think he was making more of a political statement about how much influence he has over today’s kids rather than saying it’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. Also an insightful commentary about race and rap, etc.
And old hoodies! I watched the video a few times, and I noticed that there are all types of people wearing the hoodies. There was a middle-aged fat guy, and a gray-haired granny in there too.
I love how it almost seems as if he’s advocating violence, then you see that he’s actually advocating voting. Power in numbers is a powerful message for people who think “one vote won’t matter.”
I am listening to it for the second time right now and it’s growing on me a bit but I’m not enamored with it. I was expecting something as intense, angry, or visceral as “Soldier” or even “The Way I Am” and the comparitively slow beat just doesn’t get me into it like it otherwise could.
With that being said, I like it… I just wish it were better.
I can’t believe I’m crying because of a video. And a rap video, at that.
I’d like to blame it on pregnancy hormones, but that wouldn’t be honoring the work and talent of a fine artist. I *like * the slow pulse of the beat - the heartbeat of a nation, perhaps?
Who woulda thunk Woody Guthrie’s torch would be carried by Eminem?
As little respect as I have for MTV, I suspect their requests/played videos are legit. I remember a few years back a lot of college kids emailed each other and requested something old and horrible (like “Hangin’ Tough” by NKOTB) and they played it. Likewise (but much less interesting) the local radio station of my hometown (U93, Elkhart Indiana, heh) played “Grandma got Run Over by a Raindeer” in mid-June on their “top 10 at 10” countdown because all the highschools got together and called in lameo votes for it.
The semi-odd thing is that he waited so long to release it. In many (most?) places it’s too late to register to vote, and most of the people registered have already cemented their choice.
Well, there was a big push this summer to get people registered to vote, especially younger people. I wonder if the timing of this was designed to remind them that registering is only the first step; now it’s time to take that card out to the polls and actually vote.
