The site Good Old Games is giving away Empire Earth: Gold Edition for free.
It looks like it is similar to Civilization, but I don’t know for sure as have never played it before. I’m not posting a link because I’m not sure it is allowed and I’m too tired to find out right now.

BTW: Why can’t everyone be on San Francisco time, it would be so much easier for me. Just think about it. 
It’s a very interesting game, but unfortunately it’s from the bad old days when blatantly obvious AI cheating (at least they try to hide it these days) was expected and required to cover up it’s absolute uselessness at actually playing the game. AI has unlimited resources, and I also think it builds faster, and it’s VERY obvious that this is the case, which (at least for me) makes for a terribly unfun game experience.
I don’t even know if it’s worth playing for free… but I guess you can give it a try for yourself, maybe you can look past the flaws better then I can.
They’ve also got 50% off (almost?) every game in the store and there are LOTS of really good games to be had, so it’s worth checking the site out even if you don’t think you will like this particular game.
