Mrs. Know and I saw this on Sunday. I had such high hopes for it, but I gotta say that for the most part, it fell flat.
I’ve never been a big Patrick Dempsey fan, and this film did nothing to change my mind. The rest of the cast turned in good performances, considering the material they had to work with. Amy Adams was very good as Giselle; one of the two standout performances in a mediocre film.
The other was Susan Sarandon as the Evil Queen. Not quite up to Glenn Close in 101 Dalmatians , but she made a surprisingly good villain. The whole last scene at the ball was excellent, but couldn’t make up for the rest of the movie.
The only other scene I really enjoyed was Giselle summoning the animals to clean Robert’s apartment. This being New York, instead of bluebirds, chipmunks, etc., she gets pigeons, rats and cockroaches–who proceed to clean the place.
The only good laugh I got in the whole film.
I can’t help thinking that this would have worked better as a Disney Channel TV movie.
Anyone else see it?
