I don’t really get the “raging” thing. Yeah, there’s people on the Steam forums who flip out but this whole thing started by Miller saying he overpaid for Terraria and being tongue-in-cheek about the “crippling financial loss”. It would have been “nice” is he could get that back, but no one is rolling over cars or setting things on fire over this.
Anecdotally, Amazon seems to have the best customer service with digital games. I’ve heard multiple people talk about how they needed a problem or pricing issue resolved like a forgotten coupon/credit and simply received a full refund (for a game that was activated and Amazon can’t reclaim). I have no idea how Steam distributes its payments to its publishing partners; I assume each purchase of Skyrim doesn’t result in an immediate $6 deposit in the Bethesda bank account so there is time for Steam to resolve a pricing change before sending that week/month/quarter’s payment to the publisher. But the simplest answer is that Steam isn’t competing with the other retailers in the same way that Nordstrom competes with Lord & Taylor. They’re already on top and their customer base is far more price driven than service driven. Someone getting a credit back from Steam will love Steam… until GMG is selling a game for $1 less and then they’ll buy it from GMG.
Curses, I missed it. I’ll wait to see if it pops back up again (it seems like they usually go on sale twice). Although I still have Tropico 3 from the last sale and I haven’t played it yet.
Just kidding, of course. Congratulations on the snag! Last summer they price glitched Sleeping Dogs so I guess this was this season’s grab for the fast and observant
Most of the DLC I’ve played is worth it IMO. Each DLC pack follows a similar format: A new building, a new mission, a new trait, and some new cosmetic stuff. Usually the mission is enough to make it worth it. Modern Times is a full-blown expansion pack, with a new campaign and many new buildings.
I’m guessing Terraria is $10 normally, and on sale for $2.50? I bought it for the latter price over a year ago, on a sale. That’s something you should probably wait for, and seems to be rather expected over the few. An email can’t hurt, but don’t go plotting revenge if they say no. Take the hit and buy more games! :dubious:
Sorry to go this direction, but I’ve never experienced that, ever. New Vegas is one of the least buggy Bethesda games I’ve played (yeah, not saying much).
Err, why? her ability is completely worthless outside of Dead Money. Like bald chicks? of the “4” new companions, God’s “In My Footsteps” is the only one worth anything. Although I didn’t see any reason why you can’t go back. After you beat it, you CAN use the vending machine, so as long as you got all the codes you can get stuff infinitely (just have to wait for chip deliveries).
IMHO:
Dead Money is my least favorite, but good atmosphere. It just drags. Loot is not great except for Holo Rifle (which you start with!)
Honest Hearts is by far the prettiest, and a nice atmosphere. I don’t like how there is nothing social-related to do after you beat it. It is a cornucopia of ingredients.
Old World Blues is retro-cool, the characters are fun, it’s solid.
Lonesome Road is the best plot-wise, although not as aesthetically pleasing as HH/OWB. Also, way more linear than OWB.
OWB is probably the best, then.
Is contagion any good? Looks interesting - like it may actually be zombie survival horror instead of shoot em up. 8 player coop, interesting game modes… under 4 bucks. If it’s good I’ll try to get 10+ people from the steam group to play.
So far its pretty difficult. I can normally hold my own on expert on L4D1 & 2 but I keep getting killed within 5 minutes on contagion. Maybe I’m not used to the interface. It is worth the $3.75 to buy it if you enjoy FPS games though.
ShinyLoot has a bunch of indie games on sale for a buck each. Bunch of casual, retro, platformers, JRPG inspired, puzzle games, etc. Sort the Hot Games by price to put all the $1 games in one place.
Most of the games are DRM free, some may use Desura (sort of an indie-oriented Steam), I don’t know if any use Steam.
Looking the site over, you can use the tabs at the top to look for Steam games or Desura games. Also the Hot Deals thing seems a little finicky; it doesn’t display all the games. Use this link instead.
Hitman Pack is $7.20 at GMG with coupon code TAREM-4PLAY-VOUCH
Comes with: Hitman Absolution, Hitman 2 Silent Assassin, Blood Money and Codename 47. You also get a free copy of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project with it.
This is one of their four hour sales so it’ll be over relatively soon and I don’t know what time it started.
I posted this to the steam community thread but I figure I’ll do it here because it’s time sensitive. Daily deals actually last 2 days now, yesterday’s deals are at the bottom of the page, which means Contagion is still under 4 bucks. I’m trying to organize SDMB games of it:
Contagion is on sale for the next 30 hours on steam for 3.75. It’s still in early development stage but it’s playable - game prices get jacked up after they’re officially released, so if you’re interested, you might as well get in now for less than 4 bucks.
Basically, it’s like L4D if it were an actual survival horror game instead of a dumb shoot em up. Ammo resources are limited, zombies wander around and are attracted by sight and sound, but if you move stealthily, you can minimize the attention you get. Headshots are required - you can blow their limbs off and they’ll keep coming. There are a few different modes - the basic escape mode like L4D, an objective mode where you rescue NPCs, and some sort of PVP mode that I don’t really understand yet. All modes have randomized objectives/resources to create more replayability. It has 8 player co-op, possibly some sort of survival mode (videos suggest it but I’m unclear), and if you die you end up becoming a zombie, but it’s not versus like L4D.
Still, it’s a much slower paced, more stealth oriented, limited resource, scarier, more thoughtful, more teamwork-oriented zombie game. I think it would be a good game for the SDMB group to play. Hopefully we can get enough people to get 8 player co-op going. And it’s not even 4 bucks. Grab it now, even if you don’t want to play it until it has more content, since it won’t be cheaper. And add me on steam if you’re interested in playing.
