I was going to wait for the steam summer sale to kick off, but I expected it to start a week ago. It’s oddly late. A few indie devs moved their release date up to July 11, so I was expecting the steam sale to be in the 6/28-7/10 range. Nothing yet.
But there are other sales going on. I already missed a couple. Amazon has a big one going right now, I’ll pick through the games list and make recommendations later.
You know what baffles me about amazon? They have to be one of the top retailers in the entire world, and have a web development staff of dozens, and somehow I can never find anything on their damn site. Here’s just a blob list of 1000 games. Can you sort by top sellers, or price, or discount amount, or anything like that? Maybe I don’t know how to use amazon, help me out.
If anyone remembers, post about it when the next 6 games go up. That’s a short window. Apparently code GMG20-JJVOT-ZGNGU works for another 20% off.
Current games
Chivalry Medieval Warfare $8.50/6.80 with code
Giant total war collection 41.24/32.99 (ridiculous value if you don’t have many total war games)
Resident evil: revelations 33.49/26.79
Hamtilon’s Great Adventure $2.50
Krater $3.75
SOTS: The Pit $3.39
Coupon for 20% off no longer works. Now, with each purchase, you get a $1 cash back or a $2 GMG credit. If you make one purchase at a time, you can chain the $2 credits. I bought Rotastic for $1.99 and got a $2 credit which I used to buy The Cave for $1.75 and got a $2 credit which I used to buy Sniper Elite (original) for 99¢ and got a $2 credit which is sitting in my account. So I essentially spent $2.75 for the three games including my remaining credit. Next round of sales will probably have a new coupon or other offer… they seem to be mixing it up.
Sniper Elite (original) is on sale for 70% off but not listed in the 666 deals. You have to seach for it directly.
Don’t buy the Sniper Elite V2 bundle. Buy the Spiral Groove indie bundle for $6 and get a bunch of bonus games along with the base SE V2 game. Then go to GMG and buy one DLC and you’ll get $2 credit. Use that to buy the next DLC, use the credit from that to buy the next DLC, etc. You can get the whole set for around $10 that way rather than $18.
Latest 666 deals on GMG:
Sam & Max games
The Book of Unwritten Tales (series)
Eador: Masters of the Broken World
Evil Genius
Alien Spidy
Meridian 4 (selected titles)
GOG (Good Old Games) also has a summer sale ongoing until the 5th. Way too many games on sale to list, but there are game bundles on sale each day. Right now it’s the “RPG Open Worlds” and “The Unwritten Saga” bundles.
Most of the GMG sales were pretty uninspiring but they just put Remember Me up for $26.80 with voucher code GMG20-XLQ7U-EMMBV. That’s just shy of 50% off its MSRP which is a pretty good deal for such a new game if you intend to play it now. Deal is good for six hours (until 4pm CST)
They are, but you’re not getting the extra coupon code for 10-25% extra off on the encore, so it was still worth getting them during the 6 hour slot if you got them.
Bit gimmicky, but Steam are also well known for screwing around with hour their sales work too.
I just bought Half-Life 2 on Steam for $2.49. I’ve played it before, but I have no idea if I bought a copy or got one from a friend. Anyway, worth it just to have access to it.
Amazon has a one-time use coupon for 15% a digital game: “Gooncave”. Amazon usually price matches Steam, except for flash deals, so if you see a daily you want today you might want to wait and see if Amazon matches it and then snag the extra 15% off. Amazon does not carry Bethesda digital titles so no Skyrim, Dishonored, etc. I believe the coupon is only for today & tomorrow.
In their defense, they had all sorts of server issues during the sale and the encore was meant for people who got shut out during the actual sale day. Some of that was self-inflicted, such as giving out free games during a sale.
If you buy the Ticket to Ride 1910 DLC for $1.99 from Amazon you get a free copy of Ticket to Ride, Drip Drop & The Maw. You actually get those for any indie game purchase but, if you were interested in Ticket to Ride, this makes the game + DLC around 85% off.
Steam summer sale is on! Daily deals are Bioshock Infinite, Toki Tori 2+, Defiance, Endless Space Emperor Edition, Mars War Logs, Left 4 Dead 2, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Hotline Miami, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, and Don’t Starve.
So many of the top sellers aren’t daily/flash deals. It amazes me how many people buy a game for half off or whatever at the start of the steam sale, then next day it’s reduced by another half (75%) and then they go to the steam forums and complain about how Valve ripped them off.
