Ender's Game Movie?

I am looking for info on this. I went to the official site which hasn’t had an update in close to a year. Does anyone know the “scuttle” on this?

I would love to see Ender done correctly and was hoping quite frankly that it would be animated. I can’t find any news on it, and was hoping someone out there would know more.

Thanks

PS I tried to look for this in previous threads if it is out there already could someone point me to the thread (and while we are at it tell me the search string they used to find it)

The script is mostly done and they have signed with a director and studio. But it hasn’t yet been greenlit to actually start…well…doing anything. It seems it has been this way for at least two years.

One of the biggest problems with delays is casting. They need a kid. A perfect kid of a perfect age and any delays pushes Ender past the age where he can be Ender.
Originally card was thinking of Jake Lloyd from Star Wars but that was back in 2000! Jake was 11 then. He’s almost 16 now and that’s too old.

So the short answer to your question is: while fans are clamoring, no one has any idea of anything going on with the movie. But when there’s something to tell, you’ll probably find it at www.hatrack.com

The Philotic Web is where you need to go for updates. The last significant news was last June when director Wolfgang Petersen decided to go with a remake of Bullitt as his followup to Troy, so there won’t be any more progress for at least a year.

Still, the movie’s closer to being made than it was five years ago…been waiting a long time for this thing.

The only way this movie is going to be made and not suck is if they do it with CGI like they did with the Final Fantasy movie.

Here’s a fairly recent thread.

I think it would be a tough nut to crack. Making a movie where a kid kills other kids is just something that would be a hard sell.

Y’know, I read the piece of the script Card posted on his site a couple of years back (it was like the first quarter of the film), and I hate to say this, but it was awful. Card may be a good storyteller and a good stylist in straight prose, but based on his work adapting his own material he doesn’t have a clue how movies work. I don’t know what’s happened since then, but it wouldn’t be going too far to call the screenplay in its form at that time “unfilmable.”

Just in case you’re looking for another explanation for the continuing delays.

Cervaise, the script has come a long way since then. Of course no one outside Hollywood’s inner circle has seen it, but OSC wrote a new draft and it was touched up by other, more professional writers (the team that wrote “X2: X-Men United”, if I’m not mistaken.) It doesn’t mean the script isn’t still a stinking turd – and knowing how movies work, that’s always a safe bet  – but the script you read hasn’t been the working draft for years now.

Apparently they’re also working Ender’s Shadow into the movie; will be interesting to see how that works out.
