Endicott by Kid Creole and the Coconuts

This is a stupid question, but it has bothered me for literally 20 years now, far longer than one should be bothered by such a stupid question.

Is anyone familiar with the song Endicott? Have you seen the video? Is it meant to be a spoof on the character of Clayton Endicott III from Benson? I don’t know if that’s what the writer of the lyrics had in mind, but it seems to me like that’s the way they went in the video.

For your edification, here are the lyrics: http://theorem.ca/~manttila/lyrics.html

Unfortunately, I can’t find the video on-line.

I remember the song and the video; it was catchy. I have no idea whether it was intentionally satirizing anything though.

Dammit, now I’ve got that song stuck in my head, after not giving it a thought for maybe 10 years!

I never thought it was about the charcter on Benson. I think that may just be a coincidence.

Kid Creole could dance, too. Smooth.

I remember that the female dancers in the video had hairy armpits.

But Benson never occurred to me.
