I need a word or two (but no more) in Latin that names “something that will make alot of money.” The word/s must be readily pronounceable to someone who doesn’t know Latin. The “object” is actually a bit of computer code so I was considering something like Codex Fortuno. Does that make any sense? What would “Son of Fortuna” be? Thanks.
Son of Fortune is Filius Fortunae.
Cornucopia (the Horn of Plenty) might be a candidate.
I believe fortuna in Latin isn’t related to wealth, it refers to chance, luck, destiny, and can be either good, bad or complicated. I guess it depends whether you’re looking for Latin words relating to wealth (opes/opulentia/divitie), or Latin words that sound like they’re related to wealth to English speakers.
Maybe something that riffs on “lucrative” ?
Opulissimum would be the superlative, but that would be ‘something most opulent’ and you’ve got that pesky future tense in there.
How about Opes spero - ‘I hope for wealth’? Or to make it explicitly money, talentes spero. If the speaker is more certain, it would be Opes exspecto.
I’m throwing in lucrabile, which I just formed (hopefullly correctly) from lucrum, meaning profit, and the adjective ending -bilis (in neuter -ile). It can be used a a substantive adjective.
Thanks for the replies. So does Codex Fortuno mean something along the lines of “Rich Code?”
No, if **Asteroide **is to be believed: “fortuna in Latin isn’t related to wealth, it refers to chance, luck, destiny”. It would be more like “Lucky Code” or “Chancy Code” - perhaps not the image you are going for here.
Perhaps codex divitiarum, which would mean (roughly), the code of wealth, or riches?
I don’t think I would mind “Lucky Code” if that’s indeed what it means.
